Nellie Webb, 83, of the McClellan Community of Shelby County, passed away Monday, November 25, 2013 at Green Acres Nursing Home in Center. She was born August 6, 1930 in Shelby County to Robert L. Cummings and Adell Goings Cummings. She was a member of New Harmony Missionary Baptist Church.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at Watson & Sons Chapel with Bro. Billy Windham and Bro. B. J. Windham officiating. Margie Evelyn Ray Gay, 66, of Joaquin, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2013 at ETMC Tyler. She was born April 23, 1947 in Monroe, Louisiana to Ezra Jewel Ray and Ethel Eskew Ray. Ms. Gay loved working with plants and animals. She was a loving Mom and Grandma and will be dearly missed by all. She was of the Church of Christ faith.

Oscar McDaniel Jr., 83, of Tenaha, passed away Saturday, November 23, 2013 at his residence. He was born March 23, 1930 in the Woods Community of Panola County to Oscar McDaniel Sr. and Thelma Bowden McDaniel. Mr. McDaniel served in the United States Army and was a member Ramah Baptist Church in Tenaha, where he served as an usher.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, November 25, 2013 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Ramah Baptist Church in Tenaha with Bro. Keith Keele officiating. Interment will follow at Ramah Cemetery.

Kenneth Mettauer passed on away Wednesday, November 20, 2013 peacefully of natural causes in his home at the age of 72. He was born March 2, 1941, to parents Douglas and Sue Seale Mettauer, who preceded him in death. Kenneth was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army.

Memorial services for Kenneth Mettauer will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 23, 2013, at Melrose United Methodist Church on Texas Hwy. 21 in Melrose with CLM Carol Postell officiating. Private burial was at Lower Melrose Cemetery.

He leaves a brother, John Mettauer, and many cousins and friends in the Nacogdoches, Shelby, and San Augustine Counties area.

Donations to the Melrose Cemetery Fund (2264 County Road 338, Nacogdoches, TX 75961-0777) would be greatly appreciated. He worked tirelessly for many years to help maintain the cemetery.

Paul Whitton, 86, of Cleveland, formerly of Center, passed away Friday, November 22, 2013 at his residence. He was born April 15, 1927 in Shelby County to Eli Whitton and Gertie Patterson Whitton. Mr. Whitton was stationed in Japan during his time of service in the United States Army. He later was employed with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, where he retired after several years of service. Mr. Whitton attended Sardis Pentecostal Church until he moved to Cleveland and attended Christian Cowboy Fellowship.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m., Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Graveside service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Sardis Cemetery in Shelby County with Mr. Whitton’s son, Bro. Bo Whitton, officiating.

Irene Dock (75), of Center died November 15, 2013 at Memorial Hospital in San Augustine, Texas. Funeral services for Mrs. Dock will be Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 11:00am at Triumph The Kingdom Church of God In Christ in Center, Texas. Rev. Billy Earl Gardner will officiate.

Mrs. Dock is survived by her son Dwynne Gray of Center, Texas and daughter Ramona (Arnet) Boyd of Center, Texas.

Allie Rea Brown Hughes, 90, of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, November 18, 2013 in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was born April 13, 1923 in Shelby County to John Allen Sample and Sallie Latham Sample. In 1962, Allie Rea and her husband, Alvin Brown, moved to Houston, where they resided for 10 years. They owned and operated several service stations in the Houston area. After returning to Shelby County, she was employed with Bruce Hardwood Flooring, where she later retired after several years of service. Ms. Hughes was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, where she was involved in a singing group. She had a beautiful voice and enjoyed ministering through music to three local nursing homes each week.

Visitation will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 21, 2013 at Watson & Sons Chapel with Bro. Gordon Vaughn and Bro. Larry Chandler officiating. Interment will follow at West Hamilton Cemetery in Shelbyville.

Rev. Robert Drew Warr Jr., 72, of Joaquin, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2013 at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital in Nacogdoches. He was born January 10, 1941 in Nacogdoches to Robert Drew Warr Sr. and Addie Viola Kelley Warr. Robert grew up in Nacogdoches and graduated from Nacogdoches High School. He went on to receive a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Stephen F. Austin University and later earned a Masters of Theology from Jacksonville Baptist Seminary in Jacksonville, Texas. Robert was a retired Baptist minister and pastored five churches during the years of his ministry. He most recently attended First United Methodist Church in Joaquin, where he held the title Pastor Emeritus. Robert had a wonderful sense of humor. He loved reading and he read a variety of subjects, especially Biblical history and theology. He also enjoyed painting, drawing and other artwork. He is best remembered for chalk talks, which were very inspiring.

Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, November 10, 2013 at First United Methodist Church in Joaquin with Rev. Randy Smith and Rev. Dock Lazarine officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Herman Cemetery in Center. A visitation will be held two hours prior to service time at First United Methodist Church in Joaquin.

Mrs. Lorene Sanders Adams, 99, of Timpson, Texas, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2013 at her home in Shelby County, Texas. Mrs. Adams was born February 6, 1914 in the Harris Community of Claiborne Parish, Louisiana to Goode and Onie Sanders. She was one of six children. Mrs. Adams and her husband were lifelong members of the Baptist Church and lived most of their lives in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Minden, Louisiana.

Mrs. Adams was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 56 years, Gordon E. Adams; two brothers; two sisters; and two children, James E. Adams and Mrs. Jacquelyn Shipp.

Funeral services for Mrs. Becky Gooch Long, 48, of Henderson, will be held at 10 am on Friday, November 8, 2013 in the chapel of Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home with Rev. Joseph Pemberton and Jason Zedlitz officiating. Interment will take place at 1 pm on Friday at Strong Cemetery in Huxley, under the direction of Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home.

Mrs. Long passed from this life on November 5, 2013 at her residence. She was born February 1, 1965 to the late Dal Gooch and Carolyn Linton Gooch and has been a lifelong resident of Henderson. Becky was a cosmetologist and a member of Smyrna Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by: father, Dal Gooch.

Mrs. Elsie Vonciel Ward, age 86, of Nacogdoches, Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, Nov. 1, 2013.

She was born Aug. 10, 1927, in Shelby County, Texas, to parents Robert and Lillie Lee Ward.

Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, J.B. Ward; sons, Raymond and Melvin Ward; daughter-in-law, Glenda Ward; granddaughter, Dana; two brothers; and one sister.

She is survived by her sons, Nathan Ward and wife, Connie, of Tyler, Bill Ward and wife, Frances Ward-Rogers, of Nacogdoches, Dwayne Ward and wife, Sandy, of Wilson, N.C., Randy Ward and wife, Kimberly, of Nacogdoches, Gary Ward and wife, Charlene, of Diboll; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters, LaVerne Ward of Diboll, Faye Jones and husband, Dean, of Lufkin; many beloved family members and friends.

Elsie was devoted to her family and church family. She was active in the VFW and DAV of Nacogdoches, Texas. She loved cooking and was well known for her tea cakes, cakes, and biscuits that were enjoyed by many in the community.

Services for Elsie Ward will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel, located at 5400 North St. in Nacogdoches, with the Rev. Jubal Cannon of Greater Faith Tabernacle and the Rev. Gary Ward officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.

Born September 30, 1945, in Nacogdoches, TX, Lynda Kay Hughes Post was the daughter of the late William Otis “Slim” Hughes and Mary Evelyn Powell Hughes Bradshaw. Lynda was a graduate of Longview High School and had worked as a sales manager for Alfred Conhagen in LaMarque, TX. She returned to family roots in Timpson where she built a home on her grandparents’ property. She was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church, Timpson.

Lynda was blessed with an artistic, creative talent. This talent allowed her to gift family and friends with beautiful paintings and jewelry. She was a true “rock hound” and spent many happy hours hunting for and collecting rocks. Lynda’s wanderlust was fulfilled as she and husband Ron not only traveled in the U.S. but also lived in South America and Europe. She was able to visit many countries while in Europe, enjoying the art and beautiful country. Her love of flowers was continued at her home in Timpson with beautiful vines surrounding her porch.

Lynda’s time spent with family and friends brought her the most happiness, especially the time spent with her grandchildren. Whether at her home, at the lake, or on the river, her grandkids had a great time with Grandmere. Her dogs Mister and Max also brought her much comfort during the last few months.

Survivors include husband Ronald G. Post of Timpson; children: William Todd Pitman of Palestine, Robin Lynn Cantrell and husband Doye of Timpson, Jill Suzanne Serralde and husband Armando of Palestine, and Jesse and Misty Post of Scottdale, PA; grandchildren: Alfred Layne Cantrell, Whitley Elizabeth Cantrell, Jasmine Nicole Serralde, Armando Manuel Serralde II, and Kylie Post; brother Joe Hughes and wife Nell of Timpson; uncle Pate Hughes and wife Shirley of Pasadena, TX; aunt Betty Carter of Cleveland, TX, and the Brat Pack: Anne, Cyndi, Janis, and Susan.

In addition to her parents, Lynda Hughes Post was preceded in death by grandparents L. A. and Maudie Hughes, stepfather Ancell Bradshaw, daughter Angela Pitman, and nephew Robert William Hughes.
