Gloria Jean King, age 66, of the East Liberty Community passed away Saturday, September 27, 2014 at her residence.

A wake will be Friday night, October 3, 2014 from 6pm until 9pm at Community Funeral Home Chapel, Center, Texas. She will lay-in-state from 10am until 11am, Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Todd Springs Baptist Church with funeral services to follow at 11am. Interment will be at Bush Cemetery, San Augustine, Texas with Pastor Simmons officiating.

Ms. Muriel (Bailey) McGee, 71, of Timpson, Texas, passed away Monday, September 29, 2014, in Nacogdoches, TX.  She was born April 17, 1943, in Ashtabula, Ohio.  A cremation was selected and no services are planned at this time.

Charles Ray Davis, 78, of Center, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2014 as a result of an automobile accident.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at Neuville Baptist Church with Bro. Larry Byrd and Bro. Don Noble officiating. Burial will follow at Spann’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, September 29, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Mangum Funeral Home.

He was born January 13, 1936 in Van Zandt County, Texas to John Henry and Lillie Mae Davis. He served in the National Guards, he was a welder for Tyler Pipe for many years and he retired from Tyson after many years. He was a member of Neuville Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his Parents, John Henry and Lillie Mae Davis, Son, Charles Ray Davis, Jr., Brother, John Henry Davis, Jr. & Sister, Wanza Lee Burks.

Billy Van Hairgrove, 56, of Center, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Nacogdoches Medical Center in Nacogdoches.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center.  Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 2, 2014 at Watson & Sons Chapel.  Interment will follow at Buena Vista Cemetery in Shelby County.

Mr. Hairgrove was born December 13, 1957 to Van Newton Hairgrove and Patsy Marie Lilly Hairgrove.  Mr. Hairgrove was a member of AMA, Shelby County Cruisers and First Baptist Church in Center.

James Harold Milford, 73, of Longview, TX, passed away Thursday, September 25, 2014, in Longview. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at Taylor Funeral Home Chapel, Timpson, TX. Interment will follow in Corinth Cemetery, Timpson. Visitation for family and friends will be 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at Taylor Funeral Home.

Born September 26, 1940, in Timpson, TX, James Harold Milford was the son of the late William Arthur and Emma (Ramsey) Milford. He graduated from Timpson High School, and on July 9, 1960, he and Flora Jean Smith were married in Houston. James Harold was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone and AT&T for thirty years and retired as an office manager. He was a member of Calvary Christian Tabernacle in Longview.

Survivors include his wife Jean Milford of Longview; 3 sons, Ricky, Tracy, and Darren Milford, all of Longview; sister, Linda Askins and husband Charles of Timpson; brothers-in-law Ken Ramsey and Howell Glen Hudson, both of Timpson; and 3 grandchildren, Amanda Milford and husband Val, Dustin Rivers, and Conor Milford.

In addition to his parents, James Harold Milford was preceded in death by sister Judy Ramsey and an infant sister.

John William Jarrell, 86, of Longview, passed away Friday, September 19, 2014 in Longview.

His wishes were to be cremated and no services are planned.

Mr. Jarrell was born January 15, 1928 in Eldorado, Illinois to Sam T. Jarrell and Flossie Vessell Jarrell. He served in the United States Air Force in 1946. Mr. Jarrell was most recently employed as a brick mason.

Grover Cook Hicks, age 104 of Center passed away Sunday, September 21, 2014 at Pine Grove Nursing Home in Center.

Services will be 4pm Tuesday, September 23, 2014, Mangum Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Carl Smith officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery in Center. Visitation will be Monday evening from 5pm until 7pm at Mangum Funeral Home.

Grover was born October 18, 1909 in Shelby County to parents, Grover Cook & Annie Lou (Jetton) Cook McWilliams. Grover’s father, Grover Cook, passed away before Grover was born and she was named after her father. She was a member of First Baptist Church in La Marque, Texas for 47 years and a member of First Baptist Church in Center since 1997. Grover was the last living member of the Conway Bible Sunday School Class and was now a member of the Rachel Sunday School Class. She retired from South Western Bell Telephone Company where she was a telephone operator for 30 years. Grover was a member of the First Baptist Church Golden Harvest Club, Red Hat Club, Pioneer Club for South Western Bell retirees, she was also a member of the Eastern Star for over 50 years, Mother advisor for the Rainbow Girls for 20 years. She loved playing dominoes and 42 and she hated to lose.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Grover Cook & Annie Lou Cook McWilliams, her husband, Alvin Hicks, her sister, Eva Cook Stegall and Cousins, Katha & Bill Watson.

Archie Thompson Buddin, Jr. died at the age of 85 on September 13, 2014 in Lufkin, Texas.

A private memorial service was held on September 15, 2014 in Center, Texas.

Born August 26, 1929, he was the son of the late Archie Thompson Buddin and Gladys Gibbons Buddin Taylor. He was a graduate of Salem High School and The Military College of South Carolina, the Citadel. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army and was awarded the Purple Heart in Korea. Archie retired after a successful career in the automotive industry as a sales executive with Ford Motor Company, Subaru and Toyota.

Patrick O’Neal Buddin, 80, of Center, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2014 in San Augustine.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 21, 2014 at First Baptist Church in Center with Rev. Carl Smith and Rev. Michael Hale officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center.

Pat was born August 21, 1934 in Clarendon County, South Carolina to Archie Thompson Buddin and Gladys Gibbons Buddin Taylor. He served in the United States Army. Pat met Peggy on a blind date and on that date, he asked for her hand in marriage. She said, “Yes” and they were married three months later. October 1st would have been their 48th wedding anniversary. In August of 1967, Pat and Peggy moved to Center. In December of the same year, he became one of the founders of Toledo Finance Corporation. Pat later became the sole owner and today there are over sixty locations in Texas. He loved Toledo Finance Corporation and he most recently served as chairman of the board. Pat was still involved, along with his two children, Jason and Adrienne, in day to day business operations. Pat valued each of his employees and loyal customers. He loved his family and especially enjoyed the time they spent traveling. Pat had a love for cars and over the years he owned a variety of automobiles. He enjoyed attending “Board Meetings” at Center Tire Company with his close friends. He had a huge heart and loved helping others. Pat was a member of First Baptist Church in Center.

Nolan Edward McDonald, 86, of Shelbyville, passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2014 in San Augustine.

Mr. McDonald was born May 13, 1928 in Shelby County to Luther James McDonald and Coren Snider McDonald. He served in the United States Navy and later became a self-employed farmer and rancher. Mr. McDonald enjoyed being a fishing guide on Toledo Bend for many years. He was a member of West Hamilton Missionary Baptist Church in Shelbyville, where he served as a deacon.

Paul Thomas Hudspeth, age 56 of Center passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2014 in San Augustine after a sudden illness.

Graveside service will be 4 pm, Friday, September 19, 2014 at Old Sardis Cemetery in San Augustine County with Bro. Lee Saenz officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 am until 3:15pm at Mangum Funeral Home. Family will go in procession from the funeral home to Old Sardis Cemetery, leaving the funeral home at 3:15pm.

Our precious angel on Earth, Charlotte Jeanette Lunsford, 71, born March 5, 1943 in Houston, Texas and a resident of La Porte, Texas entered into the presence of Jesus in the early morning hours on Sunday, September 14, 2014 in Dumas, Texas.

Family will receive friends on September 18, 2014 for a visitation from 12 PM until 2 PM with a service at 2 PM at the First Baptist Church--275 West Magnolia, Garrison, Texas.

Over the past 45 years of her life, she had traveled throughout the United States singing about Jesus and winning souls for the kingdom of Heaven. Her kind, loving, and sweet spirit touched so many lives throughout her time here on Earth. She was such a special lady to everyone who she came in contact with. Known by Momma, Nanny, and Aunt Net, she was truly one-of-a-kind. We know she is rejoicing on the streets of gold with the love of her life, Wendell and her son, Craig, who she longed to be with.

Jeanette is preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Jesse Wendell Lunsford; her precious son, Wendell Craig Lunsford; her sweet sister Judy Barrackman; and Mother Melba Hollan & Father, E.E. Hollan.

Woodrow Wilson Foster, 101, of the Short Community of Shelby County, passed away Monday, September 15, 2014 in Henderson.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 18, 2014 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center with Bro. Ed McRae and Bro. W. T. Permenter officiating. Interment will follow at Short Cemetery in Center. A visitation will be held one hour prior to service time.

Woodrow was born November 5, 1912 in Stephenville to William Thomas Foster and Annie Lou Blanton Foster. He worked as a display artist for Leonard Brother’s department store before WWII. During the war, Woodrow worked as a draftsman for Consolidated Aircraft Corporation in Fort Worth. In 1946, he moved to the Short Community of Shelby County, where he ran a dairy farm. When the poultry industry hit Shelby County, Woodrow raised chickens. He retired from the poultry industry in the late 1960’s and devoted all of his time to his artwork. One of his greatest achievements was being named the winner of the annual Texas State Artist competition in 1991. Woodrow retired from art in 2004, but continued to draw his caricatures. He lived at his home in the Short Community until 2012, when at 100 years of age, he moved to Henderson to live with his daughter.

Mr. Foehner was born January 23, 1943 in Washington County, Texas to Adoue Blaine Foehner and Dorothy Odell Wheeler Foehner. He retired from Griffin Oil Company after 20+ years of service and also worked at Davis Timber Company for a number of years. Tim was an avid fox hunter and loved to hear his hounds running. He never missed an opportunity to be at any activities involving his grandkids. Mr. Foehner was a member of Center Bible Fellowship in Center.

He worked as a farmer and carpenter. Mr. Britton married Debbra Ann Fields December 12, 1987 and they celebrated 26 years together. Ronnie loved the outdoors, gardening, fishing and hunting. He is preceded in death by his father.

Ouida Mae (Dent) Whiteside of Austin, Texas passed away August 27, 2014. She was born in Nacogdoches, Texas on February 27, 1928 to Roy B. Dent and Mary Odell (Johnson) Dent of Timpson, Texas. She grew up in Tenaha and Timpson, Texas and graduated from Timpson High School. On November 27, 1947, she married her high school sweetheart, Harold Stanley Whiteside and spent more than 52 years teaching, raising children and enjoying life together.

Ouida received her bachelor's degree in education from Stephen F. Austin State University and later earned her master's degree in educational administration. As a high school English teacher, she spent more than fifty years in the classroom touching the lives of many students, mentoring many young teachers and building countless lifelong relationships. In Austin, Ouida taught at Travis High School, McCallum High School and retired from Anderson High School in 2005.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she was occasionally called upon to share her insights on the scriptures of the week. She truly loved teaching, literature and her family.

Ouida was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Jack Dent and her sister Rodell (Dent) Spencer. She is survived by three brothers: Roy Dent of Lake Murvaul, Texas, Troy (Kay) Dent of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida and Ted (Pat) Dent of Nacogdoches, Texas; four children: W. Robin (Pat) Whiteside of Austin, Vikki Whiteside of Midpines, CA, Marti (Ron) Willens of Pacific Palisades, CA and Stan (Tay Tanya) Whiteside of Fajardo, Puerto Rico; seven grandchildren: Gage Brown of Austin, William R. Whiteside of Austin, Brandy Whiteside (Justin Little) of Austin, Shane Ingraham of Austin, Zack (Yesika) Ingraham of Austin, Stephanie Ingraham of Los Angeles, CA and Troy Whiteside of Austin; and seven great-grandchildren: Easton Brown, Noah Ingraham, Kobe Ingraham, Kaylee Whiteside, David Whiteside, Cris Whiteside and Jaylee Whiteside.

Sid Hall of Trinity United Methodist Church will officiate at the memorial service at 11:00 am on Friday, August 29, 2014 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ouida's memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 3520 Executive Center Dr., Suite #140, Austin, Texas 78731.

Rev. Douglas Keifer McDonald, 81, of Timpson, Texas, passed away Friday, September 5, 2014, at his home in Timpson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, September 8, 2014, at Hi Way Tabernacle, Timpson, with Bro. Jimmy Nix officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Timpson. Visitation for family and friends will be 5:00 – 8:00 PM, Sunday, September 7, 2014, at Taylor Funeral Home, Timpson.

Born August 1, 1933, in Nacogdoches County, Texas, Rev. Douglas McDonald was the son of the late Ollie D. and Maud (Smith) McDonald. On June 29, 1956, he and Sarah Crump were married in Terrell, TX. Douglas McDonald was a truck driver for Wanda Petroleum and a mechanic for Eakin Motor Company until he opened Doug McDonald & Sons Auto Repair in 1982. In 1988 he opened McDonald & Sons Auto Parts and in 1993 acquired Ace Hardware.

After attending Hi Way Tabernacle one Sunday in 1968, he began pastoring the church as long as his health allowed. Even though occupied with his business endeavors and pastoring Hi Way Tabernacle, Rev. Douglas McDonald served as the mayor of Timpson from 1998 until 2010. And he still found time to lovingly fulfill his roles as husband, father, and Papa.

Surviving are his wife, Sarah McDonald of Timpson; 3 sons, Douglas Roy McDonald and wife Aretta of Overton, TX, Jim McDonald and wife Tammy of Timpson, and Tim McDonald and wife Misty of Timpson; aunt Effie Edwards of Timpson; and 5 grandchildren: Melissa Rodriguez, Ryan McDonald, Reid McDonald, Keelie McDonald, and Bailen McDonald.

In addition to his parents, Rev. Douglas McDonald was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Doy, Eloy, and Norman McDonald.

Henry Leroy Wilburn, 64, of Patroon, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2014 after fighting the good fight against cancer.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 5, 2014 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Watson & Sons Chapel with Bro. Billy Windham, Bro. Don Windham and Bro. Lamar Denby, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Strong Cemetery in Huxley.

Leroy was born Sept. 29, 1949 in Orange, TX to Henry L. and Grace Wilburn. He retired as a truck driver for Tyson Foods after 26 years of employment. He accepted Jesus Christ as his savior at the age of 26 and was baptized by Bro. Fred Stewart. Leroy was liked by all who knew him and will be remembered for his sense of humor and joyful personality. He was well-known for his ability to do any mechanical work that needed to be done and for being a Ford fanatic. In his spare time, he rebuilt and remodeled a 1966 Ford F-100 twice and a 1966 Ford Mustang, painting them both his favorite color, blue. He enjoyed trot-line fishing and was known to bring in 70 and 80 pound catfish on his week-long camping trips with the family. A camping trip for him meant no running water, electricity or civilization for miles around. In his earlier years, he also enjoyed raccoon hunting and won several trophies with his hunting dogs.

He was preceded in death by his father, Henry L. Wilburn.

He is survived by his mother, Grace Wilburn of Patroon; children, Brandi Emanis and husband, Scott, of Patroon, Shannon Wilburn and wife, Tera, of Sexton, Katie Smith and husband, Jonathan, of Patroon; grandchildren, Jessie Rose, Ashton Battles, Delaney Emanis, Jaiden Wilburn, Max Emanis, Raylee Wilburn, Kaylin Miller, Keelan Wilburn; siblings, Bernice Graham and husband, Hugh, of Lufkin, Donice Wilburn and wife, Alice, of Nacogdoches; and many friends and extended family members.

Pallbearers will be Jessie Rose, Ashton Battles, Max Emanis, Shannon Metcalf, Ray Buckley, Joe Flowers and Thomas Ray Bryan.

He graduated from Timpson High School in 2011 where he graduated with honors and was ranked 14th in his class and he was active in powerlifting and track. Taylor was full of life, he loved skiing, fishing & rope swings. He was a dare devil and lived life to the fullest, always with a smile, full of love and energy. He will be truly missed by his family & friends.
