Janette Windham, 68, of the McClelland Community of Shelby County, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at her residence.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 22, 2016, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 23, 2016, at Watson & Sons Chapel with Bro. Chris Collins and Bro. Billy Windham officiating.
Mrs. Windham was born November 10, 1948, in Shelby County, to Carl Laborn Smith and Nina Bell Campbell Smith. She enjoyed reading, going to the movies, spending time with grandchildren and walking. Mrs. Windham was a member of McClelland Community Church.

Samuel L Montgomery Jr. passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at the age of 78.
Beloved husband of Mamie "Jerrie" Montgomery for over 56 years.
Father of Sharon Winstine (Dennis), Nathan Montgomery (Elizabeth), Shannon Ferrebee (Earl), as well as the late James Montgomery.
Grandfather of Dennis Winstine Jr., Devin Delaney, Daniel Delaney, Quentin Winstine, Ryan Montgomery, Brittany Fenasci, Victoria Montgomery, Erica Denoux, Zachary Ferrebee, Hunter Ferrebee, Wyatt Ferrebee, and Samantha Ferrebee, as well as the late Nicholas Winstine.
Great grandfather of six.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel L. Montgomery Sr. and Martha Hammack, as well as his step father James Hammack Sr.
He was the brother of Peggy Ball (Don), Paula Jones, Daphne McLaurin (Bert), James Hammack Jr (Carol), Lisa Osipowicz (Jim), and the late Marc Hammack.
He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was a deacon at Bridge City Baptist Church, past master of the Masonic Lodge, a Shriner, and a member of the Knights Templar. He was a teamster (Local 270) and drove a truck with Canal Villere Supermarkets. He was a veteran of the US Army Airborne. His passions were his faith, his family, hunting and fishing, listening to music, and watching sports.

Harriet Sue Kiker Carter, 72, of Shelbyville, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2016, in Shreveport.

Mrs. Carter was born March 5, 1944, to John Pickens Kiker and Dorthea Earp Kiker. She taught at F.L. Moffett Primary School in Center for twenty-two years. Mrs. Carter was a member of Lydia Missionary Baptist Church for over twenty-five years. There, she served as a Women’s Sunday School Teacher, organist, treasurer and leader of the Girls Auxiliary Group. She had a lifetime of devotion to her church.

Jerry Van Rhodes, 83, of Tenaha, Texas, passed away December 12, 2016, in Center, Texas. Visitation will be held from 12:30 PM until service time on Wednesday December 14, 2016 at Timpson Missionary Baptist Church, Timpson, Texas. Services wil begin at 2PM with Bro. Levi Cohorst officiating. Interment to follow at Old Home Cemetery, Shelby County, Texas.
Born June 11, 1933, in Shelby County, Texas, on the family farm. Jerry Van Rhodes was the son of the late Ben Sam and Hettie Obera (Hall) Rhodes. After graduating from Timpson High School, he continued to work until he enlisted into the United States Army in September of 1953. He spent most of his military days cooking in San Antonio, Texas.
Following his time spent in the military, Jerry was employed with Trailmobile as a pipe fitter. Jerry then met the love of his life, the late Nancy Faye Rhodes, whom he spent over 43 years with until her passing. Jerry retired from Trailmobile and began his second of many careers at Tyson Foods. He decided to retire and rehire at Tyson Foods and finally retired at the age of 72.
Jerry could fix anything. He was able to tear apart anything then put it back together again. He was considered by his family a very resourceful man. Jerry found great joy in travelling to Center every Friday for his McDouble and soda for a whopping $1.47. Everyday he travelled to Center at least once, never missing the opportunity to see his daughter, Betty, who also worked in Center. Jerry had a special pommeranian pet friend, Rascal who will definitely miss him. He was a member of Timpson Missionary Baptist Church and loved his church and church family.
Survivors include his daughter, Betty Cook and fiance Kenneth Hart of Center, Texas; brothers, John Wallace Rhodes and wife Mary Lou of Dayton, Texas, Ben Sam Rhodes Jr. and wife Linda Sue of DeQueen Arkansas; sister, Faylene Rhodes Connell of Galena Park, Texas; sister-in-law, Flora Rudd; nieces, Donna Anderson and husband David of Marshall, Texas, Dana Richardson and husband Paul of Tenaha, Texas; great nieces, Christina Patterson, Emily Richardson, Katherine Anderson; and a host of family and friends that will miss him dearly.
In addition to his parents, Jerry Van Rhodes was preceded in death by is wife, Nancy Faye Rhodes, and sister Martha Jo Rhodes.

Christopher Arthur McDaniel, 61, of Brownwood, TX. He went by Dad, Chris, Grandy & Pop. He was born to Oscar and Alyne McDaniel in Center, Texas on December 18, 1954 and went to his home in heaven on December 9, 2016.
Chris graduated from Tenaha High School in 1973 and received a pastoral and evangelism degree from Christ for the Nations in 1976. He married Deborah Lynn Ford on October 25, 1980. His death brought on as a result of prostate cancer had no sting because his victory is in Jesus.
He lived a full life fulfilling the calling to preach the gospel of Christ that he received at age 13. Due to his obedience to Christ thousands of lives were changed forever across this nation and in many other nations. He ministered as a pastor and evangelist for 25 years. During those years many experienced salvation, physical miracles, restored marriages, restored families and deliverance from bondage and addiction. He also was an entrepreneur and started his own business at age 47 and continued until he was no longer physically able. His success in ministry and business was unmatched in comparison to his success in his family.
His legacy continues through the love and devotion he gave to his family. This legacy continues in his wife, Deborah; children, Darren Krieghauser, Dana Irwin, Christian McDaniel, Christiana Elmer and Cara McDaniel. Also 12 grandchildren: Madelyn, Savannah, Ryder, Elijah, Emery, Eden, Titus, Avery, Belle, Madi, Sami and Sawyer will continue his legacy of power, love and devotion.
His wonderful life will be celebrated on Tuesday at 6pm at Victory Life Church in Brownwood. There will also be a celebration service on Saturday at 1 pm at Ramah Baptist Church in Tenaha. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home.

Ms. Gunnels was born June 13, 1932, in Center, to Ira Jones and Isabelle Waller Jones. After 20 years of service, she retired from Center ISD, where she worked as a Teacher’s Aide. Ms. Gunnels loved flower gardening. She was a charter member and was the oldest living member of Neuville Baptist Church in the Neuville Community.

Gordon L. Martin, 79, of Joaquin, passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2016, in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Mr. Martin was born December 18, 1936, in Joaquin, to W.B. Martin and Annie Belle English Martin. He served in the United States Air Force. In 1972, Mr. Martin founded Industrial Instrument Company in Baytown, which his family continues to operate. He was an avid farmer and enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with his family and friends and serving the Lord. Mr. Martin was a member of Joaquin Masonic Lodge #856. He was also a member of Logansport Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and song leader.

Melissa Powdrill Bailey, 51, of Center, passed away Sunday, December 4, 2016, in Nacogdoches.
Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 10, 2016, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center with Bro. Bobby Bressman officiating.
Mrs. Bailey was born February 12, 1965, to Charles Powdrill and Ruth Mitchell Powdrill. She was assistant manager of HEB, in Center, for over fourteen years. Mrs. Bailey was adventurous and fearless. She enjoyed scuba diving, zip lining and riding jet skis on the ocean. She also enjoyed cooking and caring for her family. Mrs. Bailey was a member of First Baptist Church in Center.

Wanda (January) Ramsey, 94, of Orange formally of Center passed away Saturday, December 3, 2016 in Orange.
Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at Oaklawn Memorial Park with Tim Perkins officiating.
She was born April 10, 1922 in Mt. Pleasant community of Shelby County, Texas to Condy Buford and Maude Eva (Ellington) January. She became a member of the Church of Christ as a teenager and in her words, “I can truly say it has been a guide, comfort and joy to me through the years.” She was a member of Eastern Star - 1948-1950, Beta Sigma Phi since 1951, member of Daughters of American Revolution since 1989, member of Daughters of Republic of Texas since 1990 and she was honored to be among those listed in “Notable Women of Texas” copyright 1984.
She was preceded in death by her husband Henry Grady (Bud) Ramsey, a brother Doyle Wayne January, and a sister Reba Maxine (January) James.

Christopher Ryan Curry, 7, of Logansport, Louisiana, passed away Friday, December 2, 2016, in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 6, 2016, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center with Bro. Frankie Mathis and Sister Melba Rodgers officiating. Interment will follow at Willow Grove Cemetery in Shelby County.
Christopher was born July 27, 2009, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Ryan Curry and Michelle Garcia Curry. He loved his trucks, wagons and “Hound”.
