Funeral service for Elizabeth “Betty” Mary Perry, 69, of Leavenworth, Kansas, will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, July 8, 2016, at Taylor Funeral Home, Timpson, Texas.  Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM.  Mrs. Perry passed away July 2, 2016, in Leavenworth, Kansas.

Born November 12, 1946, in Saranac Lake, New York, Elizabeth “Betty” Mary Perry was the daughter of the late George Tyler and Mary Anne Ryan Tyler.  Betty graduated from  high school and soon met the love of her life, James Edward Perry, a native of East Texas while he was serving in the Armed Forces stationed in her hometown.  They spent over 40 years together until she was called home to be with her Lord.  

Betty enjoyed many things in life.  She raised her children and loved them dearly.  Betty spent much time travelling with James during the years he spent in the military.  She built miniature doll houses, miniature furniture and shipped them  all over the world.  Betty found great joy in spending time with her family, children and grandchildren.

Billie Faye Doggett Barr, 87, of Center, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2016, at her residence.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 8, 2016, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center.  Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 9, 2016, at Watson & Sons Chapel with Bro. Ms. Barr was born September 29, 1928, in Walnut Grove, to Roy Lee Doggett and Gladys Martin Doggett.  She loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and church family and also enjoyed gardening.  She was a member of First Baptist Church in Center.

James William Forbes, 81, of Center, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, July 7, 2016.

Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, July 9, 2016, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center.  Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 10, 2016, at First Baptist Church in Center with Bro. Carl Smith and Bro. Bobby Bressman officiating.  Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center.

James William Forbes was born January 30, 1935, to Guilford and Mildred Teague Forbes in their home on a hill overlooking Mt. Ida, Arkansas.  The family moved a few years later to Mena, Arkansas, where James attended school and graduated in May, 1953.

He worked that summer as a Smokejumper in Missoula, Montana.  Upon his return to Mena in August, he married his high school sweetheart, Ann Campbell. They moved to Magnolia, Arkansas, where he attended Southern State College and where their first child, Angela, was born.

In 1955, they moved back to Mena, Arkansas, where he worked for the Renova Shirt Factory and then the Arkansas Highway Department.  Soon after their daughter, Janet, was born, he began employment with the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey until August, 1961, when they moved to Center, Texas. He traveled with the survey team, working in West Virginia and up and down the East Coast from Main to Southern Florida.

James’ employment in Center was with the Soil Conservation Service.  James “Jimmy” Forbes was born the following year.  Hobbies include fishing, reading, hunting, church activities and just enjoying life in East Texas.

He was a member of the Center Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as Secretary/Treasurer; a member of the Center City Council, Weather Observer for the National Weather Service, where he received several prestigious awards.  On April 25, 2016, the Chamber of Commerce awarded James with Distinguished Citizen Award, one of the highest awards they give.

Judy Ann Garrett Rufus, 72, of Beaumont , TX , departed this life on Saturday, July 2, 2016.
            
Mrs. Rufus, an educator for 42 years, in Beaumont Independent School District at French High School, Beaumont Charlton Pollard and Central High School. She was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and the National Association of University Women. She was a devoted and active member of the Church of Christ .
            
A Celebration of life will be held at 11:00 A.M. at Eleventh Street Church of Christ, on Saturday, July 9, 2016. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., at the church. Eleanor Jean Adams, age 66, of Center, passed away July 4, 2016 after a brief illness.  

A graveside memorial service is planned for Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center.

Eleanor was born March 23, 1950 in Center.  Eleanor was a registered nurse for many years and enjoyed helping people, whether it was on her rounds at the hospital, or lovingly and generously caring for her family and friends.  She loved to laugh and all who knew her will miss her sense of humor and easy smile.  She loved animals and had many pets – her “babies” – throughout her life, and although she had no children, she had a niece and three nephews whom she loved and doted on as if they were her own.

Jackie Lynn Baldwin, 71, of Conroe, Texas, passed away on June 29, 2016.

Jackie was born in San Antonio, Texas on April 10, 1945 to James Edmond and Jessie Lee Hartt Baldwin. You might remember him as #34 of the Tenaha Tigers, Class of 1964. He worked for Houston Lighting & Power for 30 years. He volunteered for Kids Unlimited for 20 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Edmond and Jessie Lee Hartt Baldwin; brother, James “Jimmy” Edmond Baldwin; nephew, Joseph Baldwin and niece, Pam Baldwin.

Mr. Samuel Sterling Hollis, age 60, of San Augustine, Texas.  Mr. Hollis passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Colonial Pines Care Center in San Augustine, Texas.

Dura Mae Wheeler Rushing, 91, of Center, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2016, in Center.  

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 27, 2016, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral service will be held at 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at Watson & Sons Chapel with Bro. Don Noble officiating.  Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery in San Augustine County.

Mrs. Rushing was born October 3, 1924, in San Augustine County, to Early Earnest Wheeler and Frances Valley Perry Wheeler.  She loved quilting, cooking, gardening, writing poetry and spending time with her family.  She was a member of Old Salem Baptist Church.

John Bruce Martin, 87, of Joaquin, passed away Friday, June 24, 2016, at his residence.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, June 26, 2016, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center.  Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 27, 2016, at Watson & Sons Chapel with Bro. David Long and Bro. Harold Hanson officiating.  Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center.

Mr. Martin was born August 7, 1928, in Joaquin, to Willfred B. Godfrey Martin and Annie Bell English Martin.  He was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed raising cattle.  Mr. Martin loved his family, his friends and his church. He was a member of Jackson Missionary Baptist Church in Joaquin and was a Past Worshipful Master of Joaquin Masonic Lodge #856.
