Born September 11, 1964, in Dallas County, Sandra “Sandy” Ruth Sanford is the daughter of Charles Wayne Tyre and Mary Ruth Shewmaker Tyre.
Sandy was taken to heaven by angels on October 31, 2025, where her son Dustin (who she missed so dearly) and grandson Kent, were waiting for her with open arms. Sandy will be deeply missed by her son Bradley, his wife Lora, her grandkids Kiersten, Dalton, and Connor and all her other family and friends.
Sandy was looking forward to watching her great-granddaughter, RaeRae grow up. She was so proud and over the moon to be a great Mamaw. Sandy always looked forward to and loved when she got to spend time with her perfect Bradley (that is what she always said about him) and the family, this was her happiest. Her other happy times were going to goodwill, hobby lobby, and yard sales. She was always looking for a sale, unless it was something she just had to have then it didn’t matter.
When she wasn’t doing these things, she loved trying to take care of one of her best friends (Granny Ruth, DeeAnn, or Keith) or give her opinion about what they should be doing. On her relaxing lazy days on the couch, she was doing it with her grand cat, Baby. For someone who didn’t like cats, she loved “Baby”. Sandy will be deeply missed by family and friends; we will forever hold on to her memories and her contagious smile and laughter.
She is survived by:
Son, Bradley (Lora) Richards of Bossier City, Louisiana
Brothers:
Chris (Daphne) Tyre of Center

Larry Chandler, 78, of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, November 3, 2025, in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Funeral service will be held at 2pm, Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center with visitation beginning at 1pm Bro. Bobby Warr will officiate. Interment will follow at White Rock Cemetery in Center.
Larry was born in the Aiken Community of Shelby County. He grew up on a farm and loved tending to the chickens and cows. He spent many a happy day in those pastures and woods hunting.
After he got older, he worked in the watermelon fields and talked about it all the time. He married the love of his life, and they were married fifty-four years. He always said he robbed the cradle as she was sixteen and he was twenty-four. He served in the Air Force for twenty years and was proud to serve his country.
When he got out of the military and working with soldiers, he got into God’s army, preaching and making soldiers for Christ. He pastored several churches and loved every one of his people. They taught him so much. He loved his family and especially enjoyed picking at his Sissy. The picking came honest from his father and grandmother who were good at playing tricks. He will be missed by many, but especially his fellow pastors and domino buddies, his second family.
I don’t think they have domino tables in heaven, but if they do, he will be right there.
He is survived by:

Bonnie Bee Hughes Lane, 82, passed away Friday, October 31, 2025, in Center, Texas. She was born November 8, 1942, in Center, Texas to Velton B Hughes and Bonnie Ruth Franks Hughes. All are welcome to join the family for a committal service Tuesday, November 4 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery on County Road 1470 between Center and Timpson.
Anyone who knew Bonnie Bee knew that everything involved a story – often a long one that led to many others. Her story began in her beloved Shelby County, and her first several years were spent living on her family’s farm in the Rainsville Community between Arcadia and Huber. Later, much of her youth was spent in the Golden Triangle – usually spending weeks on the coast and weekends at the farm. She treasured many memories of her Daddy’s passion for tending to cattle, crops, and business affairs, and she often shared the lessons she learned while hanging around the historic Center Square when her Uncle Vause was the jailer; her Uncle Voyde had been the county clerk for a time as well, and Bonnie Bee’s love for history and politics only grew with time. Perhaps it found new life during the time she spent with her mother at SFA “helping” her mother get her master’s degree. She shared her mother’s passion for education, eventually obtaining a degree of her own and becoming a teacher.
Bonnie Bee was reared learning how to run a household. She helped prepare meals from a young age, and her culinary abilities will always be remembered – particularly for her chicken and dumplings and banana pudding, which were always staples. She has preached many lectures about the necessity of using a whole chicken and cutting it up yourself. And the Nilla wafers had to be carefully and perfectly crumbled across the top of the pudding. Everything was done with precision, no matter how long it took. When she married at the young age of 14, she was prepared to make a home – though she proudly finished school first. She then embarked on a journey as a military wife, often recounting her time in Anniston, Alabama. Her razor-sharp memory allowed her to recall the exact amount she was allotted for groceries each week and detailed conversations she had with residents of Anniston over 60 years ago.
Apart from teaching, Bonnie Bee worked in various other fields. She spent time working for the employment commission, helping others find jobs, and she took on an executive role with Bethlehem Steel for a time. She would tell of road trips and phone calls she made in this capacity, and anyone who knew her could attest that no other person could speak with such conviction on any topic important to her. She once attempted to take a job as a pharmaceutical saleslady, but this did not work out because she did not have enough faith in the products to call forth her usual conviction and persuasion. She was proud to have been the first female saleslady for the Red Stick Linen Company, based in Baton Rouge. She helped the company expand into Texas during her time with them, and she particularly loved one story from her time with this company when she attended a banquet as the only female in a huge room of hundreds of men. Someone was supposed to give a speech but could not handle the pressure, and none of the men would volunteer. Bonnie Bee, with no advance notice or preparation and little information on the subject, took the stage and undoubtedly captivated the audience.
Everything she did, she did with passion and energy. This included simple tasks such as driving. Let us not forget that Bonnie Bee’s passing represents the end of an era in many ways. From 1976 until well into the 21st Century, she drove nothing but the largest Oldsmobile she could get at the time. She was distraught when the brand was discontinued.
Bonnie Bee had stayed in Orange after her parents retired to the family farm in Shelby County in the 1970s, but about a decade later she relocated as well because her Daddy wanted her to be with him as he finished out his earthly life. She returned to Shelby County, temporarily at first, but ended up staying and taking on her newfound role as an aunt. While she never had children of her own, she directed her affections toward her niece and nephew, Shelly and Jesse, who had come into the world just before Bonnie Bee returned to Shelby County. The impact she had on them, and then on the grand nephews and nieces, will never be forgotten. She was a force to be reckoned with in every respect. She possessed an indomitable spirit, and she could talk without ceasing for more hours on end than anyone else could even stay awake. She never stopped trying to impart knowledge and wisdom. Once you realized that every single thing had to be done in her own unique way, there was a lot to learn and appreciate.
Bonnie Bee is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Velton B Hughes and Bonnie Ruth Franks Hughes; her brother, John Madison Hughes; and her grandparents, Madison Barto Hughes, Mary Belle Webb Hughes, J.W.B. Franks, and Mary Leticia Murray Franks.
She is survived by:

Bobbie graduated from Carthage High School and went on to further her education at Tyler Business school. She began her career as a secretary at Carthage ISD, where she worked for twelve years. She even worked at Perry Brothers for a time. On March 22, 1958, Bobbie married the love of her life, Charles Nutt. Always busy, Bobbie was a hard worker, never expecting her employees to do anything she wasn’t willing to do.

Even though life was hectic, she made sure her children were involved in activities. Bobbie supported her children and was always involved with them. She had a big heart, was headstrong, and had a knack for sensing when something wasn’t right with her friends and family.
After her retirement, Bobbie enjoyed spending time with her Sunday school friends at First Baptist Church in Center, where she was a member of the Homemaking Group. Bobbie also loved her Senior Citizen Site friends and playing cards. Another one of her hobbies was crocheting and she did this until her sight began to fail her. Ronald Banks Samford, 64, of Joaquin, Texas passed away on October 21, 2025, in Joaquin, Texas. Born on March 29, 1961, in Baytown, Texas, to Billy Banks Samford and Shirley Faye (Wilson) Samford.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 2-3PM at Mangum Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025, at 3:30PM at Ramah Cemetery, Tenaha, Texas, with Bro. Stewart Lowe officiating.
Ronald Banks Samford graduated from Tenaha High School in 1979. He always loved sports, playing football and basketball, and running track.
He joined the military after high school and graduated from the U.S. Air Force Tech School at Lowry AFB Colorado for Imagery Systems Maintenance Specialist in 1981. After serving his country from 1980-1984, Ronny returned to Shelby County. On August 8, 1987, he married the love of his life, Rhonda Conway Samford and they made their home in the Paxton Community.
Ronny worked for many years at Hallmark Fixtures before starting his sports writer and photography career at Timpson & Tenaha News working with his Aunt Hilda Pena in March of 2010 and staying until the last issue of the paper was printed in January of 2015. Ronny loved sports and covering the games was a dream job he felt blessed to have. He continued covering local sports and started working for Shelby County Today in December of 2015 which he did until his passing. A quote from Ronny in an article he wrote, “I’ve never enjoyed a job more than covering our Shelby County kids participating on the fields and courts of competition.”
Ronny served on the Tenaha ISD Board of Trustees from 2007-2019. He also volunteered as a little league football coach and baseball coach.
Together, Ronny and Rhonda had two sons Nicholas and Jacob. He loved his boys and cherished his grandchildren spending all the time he could with them. Matter of fact, the most important and special job Ronny held and took pride in was his last job. He got paid in 'make believe pizzas' and endless tea parties. He danced with a real princess. He caught fish and turtles with a master fisherman who paid with bear hugs and secret kisses that not too many others got. He slayed zombies and he walked on hot lava. He built castles out of cardboard too. His payment was the best treasure he ever received and they called him CoCo. Paid in full!

Kenneth Wayne Anderson, 88, of Center, Texas passed peacefully from this life on October 19, 2025. He was born on April 26, 1937, in Joaquin, Texas to the late George and Carrie Anderson.
In 1960, Kenneth married the love of his life, Anita Joanne Wrider, and together they built a beautiful life centered around hard work, family, and laughter. Kenneth supported his family as a barber, earning the trust of his customers who returned to bring their own sons and then their grandsons to his shop where Kenneth’s steady hand and jar of bubble gum were ever present. Once their children, Vicki and Wayne, entered school, Joanne attended barber school, so she could work by Kenneth’s side. Together, they opened their own shop in a rented space before eventually purchasing property and building their own business, where they worked hand in hand for many years.
At an age when many are welcoming great-grandchildren, Kenneth was delighted to become a grandfather. His eyes lit up and the sun shone brighter when he spent time with any of his three grandchildren.
His life was filled with endearing contradictions. He had a booming laugh, yet was gentle and soft-spoken. He was a talented barber, who never needed a haircut. He was the most generous cheapskate who would do anything for his family. He was a man of faith who eschewed organized religion and felt closest to God outdoors, surrounded by nature and his animals. He was open and honest with his children, yet quietly protected them from the struggles that many families face. He loved horses and learned to love motorcycles so he could share his children’s passions.
Kenneth was preceded in death by Joanne, his beloved wife of 60 years, brother Lloyd and sister Jane Anderson.
He is survived by sisters Sharon Boulter and Sheila Hadley; sister-in-law Sylvia Anderson; daughter Vicki Anderson; son Wayne and wife Robie and grandchildren Bryan, Brooke and Brandon; and numerous nieces, nephews and others who loved him.
Kenneth will be remembered for his steadfast integrity, his quiet strength, his humor, and his deep love for his family. His legacy lives on in the lessons he taught, the laughter he shared, and the countless lives he touched—one haircut, one conversation, and one act of kindness at a time.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Watson and Sons Funeral Home, 1554 TX-7 E, Center, TX 75935. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by the service at 2:00 p.m.
