March 2, 2022 - Center Varsity travelled back to Tyler on February 18 to participate in the Bob Faulkner Invitational.

Results are as follows:

The team had a good showing which was highlighted by multiple medalist and 1st place finishers.

Upcoming for Varsity is the Longview Lobo invite with 24 schools on Thursday, March 3rd and it will be loaded with competition.

The Center Junior Varsity traveled to Whitehouse yesterday, March 1 and the results are as follows:

Halle Bonner advances to State Meet.

March 2, 2022 - The Joaquin Lady Rams Powerlifting Team had seven girls qualify for the Regional Meet: Emma Barton, Lauren Neal, Halle Bonner, Kyleigh Avery, Shelbi Miller, Emma Raybon, and Riley Mullins (not pictured).

These girls competed at Rice High School in the Region 3 -1A/2A Division. We are extremely excited and proud of the hard work these ladies put in this season. Every lifter set a personal best at the meet.

Congratulations ladies on a job well done. Halle Bonner finished 2nd in her division and will represent Joaquin at the State Powerlifting Meet in Corpus Christi on March 16th. Good luck Halle!

Athens High School on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 -

The Center Roughriders varsity basketball team fell to Waco Connally High School, by a 71-57 final score, during their Texas UIL Region III Quarterfinal elimination game. The game was close early and the Connally Cadets only led by a single point at 11-10 at the end of the first quarter.

The lead swapped hands four times during the second stanza but the Cadets were able to scratch their way to a 29-25 lead by the halftime break. Connally gained a ten point advantage with three minutes left in the third period but the Roughriders came back late to cut the Cadets lead to just 6 points at 43-37 when the buzzer sent the game into the final period.

Connally outscored Center 28-20 points during the fourth period to take the 71-57 win.

Center ends their 2022 season with a 23-10 season mark. They came in as the District 174A first place representative. The 'Riders were led by Jamarion Evans with 21 points. Emonte Cross scored 14 and Kedrin Hinson scored ten.

The Cadets came in as the first place seed for District 18 with a 31-3 mark. They were led by Jelani McDonald with 22 points. Connally now advances to the Region III Semifinals where they will face Silsbee High School.

March 1, 2022 - The Bi-District Champion Roughriders will play Connally Cadets at Athens High School on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at 6 p.m. Tickets are $6 adults and $4 students. Passes accepted are THSCA, TABC, UIL District passes, and Senior Citizen passes.

Athens High School on Friday, February 25, 2022 –

The Tenaha Tigers Lady Tigers varsity basketball team fell to the Martin’s Mill Lady Mustangs by a 53-40 score during the UIL Texas Basketball Playoff Region III Semifinal round elimination game.

The game was close early on and THS only trailed by a single point at 8-7 points at the end of the first period. By halftime Martin’s Mills led 24-18.

The Lady Tigers kept fighting but the game began to slip away as they fell behind by a 36-27 score at the end of the third quarter. Tenaha trailed by eight points, at 46-38 with less than three minutes remaining but the Lady Mustangs were able to hold on for the win.

The Lady Tigers were led by Tiyanna Dagley with 18 points, Lucy Giles and Jasmine Dodd each scored seven points, Addy Duncan  6 and Lataijha Steadman scored two points.

The Lady Mustangs were led by Jada Celsur with 23 points. The Lady Mustangs are 26-2 and they are on a 22 game win streak.

Tenaha finished as regional semifinalist and posted a 28-6 season mark. The Lady Mustangs will face Douglass High School Saturday afternoon in the Region III Final/ State Quarterfinal game.

February 23, 2022 - The Bi-District Champion Roughriders will play Manor New Tech at Madisonville High School on Friday, February 25 at 6:30pm.

Tickets are $6 adults; $4 students.

Passes accepted: THSCA, TABC, UIL District passes, Senior Citizen passes.

February 23, 2022 - The Dragons boys basketball will play in the Area Playoff game on Friday, Febuary 25 at Gary versus Beckville at 7 pm. Admission is $5.

Coaches passes, district passes and Sr. Citizen passes will be accepted. The Dragons are visitors.

 

Cushing Bearkats Gymnasium on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 –

Both Shelbyville and Tenaha High School varsity boy’s basketball teams had back-to-back bi-district playoff elimination games at Cushing High School on Tuesday.

The Shelbyville Dragons came away with a 66-47 win over the West Sabine Tigers in a showdown between District 23 2A third seed and the District 24 second seed.

West Sabine led 4-2 halfway through the opening period but SHS came back to tie the game at 12-12 at the end of the first quarter. Shelbyville outscored WSHS 17-7 in the second stanza and the Dragons took a 29-19 lead into the midway intermission.

The third period saw the Dragons build on their lead and they took a 43-30 lead into the final period.

The fourth period saw the Tigers fight their way back some but the Dragons were able to maintain a lead throughout and take the 66-47 win.

Shelbyville had three players score in double figures: Michael Carrillo had 19, DJ Barnes 15 and Tre McGee had ten points. WSHS was led by Quentin Smith with 14 points.

Shelbyville will move on to the Area round of the UIL Basketball Playoffs later this week.

The Tenaha Tigers second seed for District 23 next faced the Broaddus Bulldogs who came in as third seed of District 24. The Tigers took an 11-3 lead by midway through the first period and they led 21-10 at the buzzer which sent the game into the second quarter. THS led 34-21 at the midway break.

Tenaha led 49-32 at the end of the third frame and they eventually held on to win by a 68-36 score.

The Tigers had four players in double digits scoring: Pooh Moore had 17, Jordan Ross 15, Kamarion Ross 14 and Jeremy Patton scored 13 points. Broaddus was led by Colton Modisette and CJ Emerson with 12 points each.

Tenaha’s Area round playoff information will be made available later this week.

February 21, 2022 - The Joaquin Rams varsity baseball game scheduled for today, February 21st has been rescheduled for tomorrow, February 22nd at 6:00 p.m. The JV game is cancelled for today and will not be rescheduled.

February 21, 2022 - The Shelby County Bass Anglers (SCBA) will host the first pre-tournament meeting of 2022 Tuesday night, February 22nd at 7pm at the home of David Koonce. The tournament will be held this Saturday, February 26th out of Huxley Bay on Toledo Bend. Reminder: this is a one day event.
