Joaquin High School on Friday, January 29, 2021 –

Timpson High School headed to Joaquin on Friday for District 23 2A high school basketball games. In varsity action the THS Lady Bears took a convincing 65-20 win over the Lady Rams. In boys varsity play the Bears beat the Rams 62-41.

The Lady Bears started the first period with an 8-0 run and led 22-3 at the end of the quarter. The second quarter saw them go on an 8-0 run and this helped them lead 35-12 at halftime. A 9-0 run in the third period allowed them to take a 52-16 lead into the final period of play.

Timpson had three ladies in double figures scoring. Harlie Ware scored 19 points, Claire Johnson 14 and McKenna Wynn 10. Joaquin was led by Kalie Brooks with 14 points.

The Lady Bears are in the playoffs with a 9-1 conference mark and a 16-4 overall record. The Lady Rams have been eliminated with two games remaining this season.

Boys action saw Timpson lead 10-2 midway through the opening stanza. They built a 14-6 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Bears outscored the Rams 14-7 in the second frame and took a 28-13 lead into the locker room at the midway intermission. The Bear outpaced the Rams 17-10 points in the third period and took a 45-23 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Bears are 5-4 in district play with three games remaining. Joaquin is 4-5.

Timpson will host Shelbyville for more high school basketball on Tuesday, February 2, 2021. JV will tipoff at 4:30 p.m. and varsity action will follow.

Joaquin will travel to San Augustine High School next Tuesday. Tipoff will begin at 4:30 p.m.

January 29, 2021 - Tonight Roughrider Basketball plays a double-header against the Palestine Wildcats in Palestine. Both games are earlier than usual with the ladies tipping off at 5:00.

The 5-2 Lady Riders begin the evening facing the district-leading Lady Wildcats at 6-1. In their first match-up, Center led for three-and-a-half quarters but Palestine earned a come-from-behind victory. A Center win would create a three-way tie at the top of the standings with Jasper who Center beat in a thriller Tuesday night.

The Ray Jones Chevrolet Pre-Game Show begins at 5:45. The Broadcast Team visits with Coach Boone, then student reporter Jack Callen Watlington sits down with Lady Rider guard Amiyah Hubbard from Roughrider Studios.

Immediately after the Ladies, (at approximately 6:30), the 4-1 Roughriders face the Wildcats as both teams begin the second half of the district schedule.   During the Crossover Show [between games], The Broadcast Team chats with Coach Hiram Harrison and Jack Callen talks to Roughrider senior Treyven Emerson.

Then at halftime the Abundant Love Ministries Halftime Show features Kennedy Bush's interview with cheerleader Camryn Crouch during the ladies' game and with Avery Snell during the gentlemen's game.

As the last game concludes, we'll talk to Center Motor's Ford Tough Player of the Game during the Farmers State Bank Postgame Show.

Center High School on January 26, 2021 –

High School basketball was in in full swing at Center Roughriders Gymnasium on Tuesday, January 26, 2021. In varsity action the Center Lady Roughriders took a 57-54 win over the Jasper Bulldogs. In boys action Center won over Jasper by a 65-48 score.

The girl’s game was close throughout.  Center had three players in double figures. Jakayla Parks and May Johnson each had 17 points. Aniyah Boykins added 11 points to Center’s tally.  Lady Bulldog Shabrayln Watson scored 20 to lead her team. The Lady ‘Riders are now 13-7 overall and they have two District 17 4A conference games left to play.

In boy’s action, Makel Johnson led Center with 23 points and teammate Jamarrion Evans had 19. The Bulldogs were led by Sterling Winchester with 20 points. Center is 5-1 in conference play with four league games left.

Center will next travel to Palestine High School on Friday, January 29, 2021. JV action will start at 4:30 p.m. with Varsity girls play beginning around 6 p.m. and boys varsity following.

January 25, 2021 - Tickets will be sold online for the Center vs Palestine Basketball game this Friday, January 29 at Palestine.

Joaquin High School on Friday January 22, 2021 -

Both the Joaquin girl’s and boy’s varsity basketball teams were able to come away with District 23 2A wins on Friday.

The Lady Rams gained a 16-4 lead by the end od the first period. At halftime they led 25-13 on their way to a 48-19 conference win. JJ Bass led Joaquin with 20 points and Kalie Brooks also had double figures with 12.

Boys action saw the Rams leading 14-7 at the end of the opening frame. They took a 25-18 lead into the locker room at the midway break. The Rams eventually won by a 51-35 score.

The Rams and Lady Rams will head to Gary High School on Tuesday January 26, 2021. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at Bobcats Gymnasium.

January 22, 2021 - The Tenaha Tiger's Friday girls’ soccer game vs Carthage Today, January 22, 2021, has been moved to the Carthage Bulldog Stadium at 5:00. Prepare for possible rain during the game.

Center Roughriders Stadium on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 –

The Center Roughriders Junior Varsity and Varsity soccer teams competed with visiting Chapel Hill on Tuesday. In JV action Center took a 6-1 win.

The Roughriders varsity boys fell to the Bulldogs by a narrow 2-3 score. CHS trailed 0-2 at halftime but battled back to outscore Chapel Hill 2-1 in the second half.

January 19, 2021 - Tenaha Tigers varsity girls play today, Tuesday, January 19, 2021 against Martinsville in Martinsville at 5pm. No general admission.

Boys games cancelled.

Tenaha SEC on Friday, January 15, 2021 –

The Tenaha Lady Tigers varsity basketball team was able to take a 46-42 District 23 2A varsity basketball win from the Lady Dragons of Shelbyville on Friday. The win puts the THS conference mark at 6-0 and THS has a 13-2 overall record. Shelbyville now stands at 11-5 for the season and they are 3-3 in league play.

The game was close early and THS led 8-5 midway through the opening period. Shelbyville cut the Lady Tigers lead to 9-8 by the end of the first quarter. The Lady Tigers outscored SHS 18-9 in the second frame and took a 27-17 advantage into the locker room at the midway break.

Shelbyville was only able to make up a little ground in the third stanza and trailed 37-29 going into the final stanza. Shelbyville was able to outscore THS 13-9 in the final period but the Lady Tigers were able to hold on for the win. Kamari Gray led THS with 11 points. Kiouja Gated led Shelbyville with 14 points.

The Tenaha Tigers Boys varsity team took a convincing 93-48 win over the Dragons. This improved the THS season mark to 6-6. Their District record now stands at 3-1. SHS is 13-3, 3-2 in conference play.

The game was fast paced and close in the early going. The Tigers and Dragons were tied 8-8 at the midway point of the first quarter. THS led just 21-18 at the end of the first period. At halftime Tenaha led by 11 points at 45-34. Tenaha outscored Shelbyville 26-11 in the third period and this had them leading 71-45 going into the fourth quarter. The Tigers went on a 13-point run which saw them lead 85-46 midway through the final period. They outpaced the Dragons 22-3 in the final frame to take the 93-48 win.

Tenaha had four players in double figures scoring. Tre Keggler led the team with 31 points, Pooh Moore scored 24, Quinnon Gardner 18 and JJ Patton had 10.

Shelbyville was led by LD Coleman with 13, Jay Moore 12 and Kevin Jones 10.

Tenaha travels to Martinsville next Tuesday, January 19, 2021 where JV tips off at 4:30 p.m. and varsity conference play continues.

Shelbyville will host Joaquin High School Tuesday, January 19 and JV will start the day at 4:30 p.m. and varsity boys and girls action will follow.

January 15, 2021 - The Tenaha Tigers will host the Shelbyville Dragons in two basketball games on Friday, January 15, 2021. The Varsity boys and girls will play with games starting at 5:30pm. Tickets will be sold at the gate.
