SCAM ALERT: Beware of Entities Posing as State Agencies to Send Purchase Orders

August 27, 2020 - Attorney General Ken Paxton issued a consumer alert warning Texans and Texas companies to exercise caution with any purchase order purporting to come from a state agency when they have not established prior contact with that agency. Recently, scammers and entities posing as state agencies have sent out purchase orders for goods. The company receiving the fraudulent purchase order then processes the order, ships the goods and never receives payment from the scammers.

Voting by Mail Based on Disability Reserved for Texans With Actual Illness, Medical Problem Rendering Them Unable to Vote In-Person

April 15, 2020 -Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton today issued a letter in response to Representative Stephanie Klick’s request for guidance on whether, under the Texas Election Code, Texans may claim disability based on fears of contracting the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and receive a ballot to vote by mail in upcoming elections.

The webpage at www.texasattorneygeneral.gov/houses-worship details Texans’ constitutional rights, necessary laws and licenses related to carrying firearms, and training resources for security volunteers in houses of worship.

Texas AG Paxton’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit Reaches Milestone, 12,000 Total Arrests

March 10, 2020 - Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton today commended the Fugitive Apprehension Unit of his office for reaching a significant milestone since its inception in 2003. The unit achieved its 12,000 arrest with the capture of Robert Chapa for violating his parole after being convicted for possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
