February 9, 2021 - Valentine's Day is almost here but it's not the only day in February to Celebrate!
February 11th is International Day of Women and Girls in Science. It is a day to honor women's achievements in science as well as focus on girls entering stem programs and careers. STEM, which stands for “science, technology, engineering and mathematics,” is the fastest growing segment of jobs with not enough employees to fill the positions. Take time to learn about women in science and encourage young women to pursue STEM.
Everyone knows that February 14th is Valentine’s Day; it’s also National Donor day. 120,000 Americans currently waiting for precious organ transplants. Signing up to be a donor is the ultimate way to show your love.
Mardi Gras is February 16th! We celebrate with colorful beads and masks, also, by eating rich fatty foods before fasting Lenten season.
After the Mardi Gras celebration, February 17th is Ash Wednesday which is a Christian holy day of fasting, sacrifice and prayer.
February 17th is also Random acts of kindness day! To celebrate you can compliment a stranger, buy someone a lunch, or just treat people the way you want to be treated.
After expressing your Love on Valentine's Day, don't forget our four-legged friends. February 20th is National love your pet day. Celebrate by doing something extra special for your pet. If you don’t have a pet, this day would be a good day to go to a shelter and adopt one.
February 23rd is World spay day. The world has so many unwanted animals who are put out or dropped off at shelters. Let's be responsible and spay and neuter our pets.
February 25th is National chili day! Chili keeps us warm on a cold winter day and it sparks much debate such as beans or no beans, spicy or not and who has the best recipe with chili cook off’s.
The whole month of February is Black History month which is being celebrated nationally. Take some time to learn some local Black History.
Enjoy the rest of your February!
February 5, 2021 - My wife and I received our first Covid-19 vaccination through the Hope Clinic at the First Baptist Church (Thursday) and it could not have been a better experience. Everyone there was helpful and very nice; the nursing students from Panola College did a great job administering the vaccine and checking on each patient. Their treatment and kindness is far beyond what I experienced in boot camp; half naked and receiving injections from two unfeeling corpsmen, delivering an injection in each arm simultaneously, no complaining allowed!
Thank You!
Steve and Lisa Thomas
