December 9, 2016 - The Shelby County Children's Advocacy Center received a special delivery from Shelbyville 4-H this week. Volunteers from that organization donated and decorated a Christmas tree for the lobby.

We are very grateful to these children for bringing Christmas cheer to our office!

November 29, 2016 - Grace Manor is trying to help provide one Christmas present for each of our foster children. We have over 90 children under our care now, so this is a big task! We are asking for help from our community to make sure all of our children have a nice Christmas.

We have asked our foster parents to turn in to us one gift idea (between $35.00 and $50.00) that each of their foster children would like. We have these gift ideas available at our office to be picked up and purchased. We are asking that you return the wrapped gifts by December 9th.

The children have wished for toys, bicycles, games, electronics, and gift certificates.

Anything you can do to help would be appreciated!  We accept cash donations from those who are unable to purchase a present. Come by our office at 109 Carroll Street or call Dan at 598-3611 for more information. Thank you!

December 8, 2016 - (Album) - The city of Center parade float and Ace Hardware parade float were at the John D. Windham Civic Center on Wednesday, December 7, 2016.

Both floats featured music and participants distributed candy to children visiting the holiday themed floats. With the cancellation of Santa's Christmas Parade plans for a virtual parade were put in place as well as the display of floats at the civic center.

Ace Hardware of East Texas employees were responsible for putting together their float and the city of Center employees designed and engineered theirs. On board the Ace Hardware float is a Dream Playhouse for Kids which the business is giving away through a free drawing. Anyone wishing to participate need sign up at Ace Hardware of East Texas.

An added treat for children attending the holiday event was a visit with Santa Claus.

December 8, 2016 - Friends of the Library would like to thank all the many volunteers who helped make the fall book sale a big success. Your help was invaluable; we could not have done it without you!

Also a big thank you to Ms. Charlotte Szabo, for the beautiful quilt she made and generously donated for our quilt raffle.

All proceeds from the book sale go to buy new books for the library. Again, thank you, one and all!

Friends of the Library and
Sandra Davis, Library Director

December 7, 2016 - Regional Business Development Manager, Steve Waters, along with the Sabine State Bank staff, donated $500 to the CHS UIL organization. This money goes towards the annual UIL tournament CHS holds, and helps cover the costs of other expenses throughout the year.

The UIL academic program offers students an opportunity to participate in more than 30 events, such as computer applications, mathematics, journalism, and science. It gives students the opportunity to expand their knowledge in certain subjects that interest them, improve skills, and bring home awards from
competitions with other schools around the state.

The Center UIL Academic Program has been successful throughout the years, and continues to grow. The district meet will be held in March. Donations towards the organization are greatly appreciated and benefit more than 65 students at CHS.
