December 6, 2016 - Shelby County 4-H'ers assisted with bringing Christmas cheer to the Historic Shelby County Courthouse on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 during their monthly meeting. Jheri-Lynn McSwain, County Extension Agent, gave a tour of the courthouse sharing with the kids a few details about the courthouse. McSwain showed the group a photo of a family member of her husband who helped with construction of the courthouse and then took them to the upstairs courtroom.

Following the history lesson, the fun began and everyone broke off into groups with each group being assigned duties from hanging the wreaths and decorating fireplace mantels to hanging ornaments on the large tree and small trees.

After the Christmas spirit was spread throughout, everyone enjoyed pizza at Pizzeria.

December 5, 2016 - (Album) - Timpson Masonic Lodge #437 presented Timpson first grade students with dental kits on Friday, December 2, 2016.

Leslie Gill, representing the lodge, joined with Brittany Kimbro, school nurse, in addressing the students about the importance of brushing their teeth. Several students took turns brushing a large set of demonstration teeth with a large tooth brush.

At the end of the program each of the students were presented with a dental care kit.

December 2, 2016 - (Album1, Album2) - The city of Joaquin celebrated the Christmas season with a festival and parade on the city square Saturday, November 26, 2016.

Vendors gathered beneath and near the farmer's market pavilion to offer a variety of gift ideas for the holiday season and food. Throughout the event a treasure hunt was the focus of many attending the event as they waited anxiously as the day progressed for each additional clue leading them closer to a $500 reward.

The musical talent of Trey Wilson and gospel pair Broken Vessels enjoyed by all who were on the Joaquin square that day. While the performers took a break, the smooth sound of Essex Wilson accompanied by pianist David Gatlin carried through the city streets.

A parade began toward Joaquin ISD with the Joaquin Volunteer Fire Department leading the way with Santa Claus atop one of their trucks. The Joaquin Ram band played Jingle Bells as they marched down Highway 84 and onto the square as they were followed by a cart full of merry elves and riders on horseback.

After the parade, the Joaquin Volunteer Fire Department held a cake walk which drew many participants vying for their favorite cake or pie.

An ugly sweater contest had three contestants and in 1st place was Aimee Van Houte who received $50, Emily Baker in 2nd place receiving $30 and 3rd place going to Candy Broadus who received $20.

Best performance for the parade was awarded to the Joaquin Ram Twirlers and the band won both 2nd and 3rd place. Best of the parade was 1st place Veronica Warren, 2nd place Trail Riders, and 3rd place Joaquin Volunteer Fire Department.

Community Christian Services held a $500 raffle throughout the day and the winner at the end of the day was Todd Jenkins.

After the final clue was given at the end of the day, a crowd of people rushed to Dean's Hardware where they searched high and low for the token which would lead them to being $500 richer. It was finally located by Cynthia Torres and her family. Torres was presented the $500 on center stage by Trey Wilson.

November 28, 2016 - Linda Bordelon of Heavenly Honey Apiary presented "Keep Bees Buzzing" to Delta Gamma on Monday, November 14.  Linda is a member of Center Garden Club, besides being a member of Delta Gamma which is an organization of key women educators. She educated members on trees, shrubs, and flowers that are helpful as well as harmful to bees.
