December 12, 2022 - The Shelby County Chamber of Commerce ambassadors and members of the community celebrated with Fancy’s Cafe on November 2, 2022 with owners Karly and Michael Howard with a New Member Ribbon Cutting.
Chamber of Commerce Ambassador President Stephanie Elswick welcome everyone and introduced Karly Howard one of the owners of Fancy’s Cafe, “Congratulations to you and Michael (Howard), this is your plaque for becoming a member of the Chamber.” Elswick also mentioned she is a fan of their hamburgers before inviting Karly to speak about the restaurant.
“I just want to thank you for everybody coming out today to the ribbon cutting. And also, today is our two year anniversary of being open. We started out in Tenaha at the original Whistle Stop building. We are a family owned and ran restaurant. We are open Monday through Saturday, 11am to 9pm. We have lunch specials from 11am to 2pm.”
“We’ve really been blessed moving to Center, we’ve been grateful for the opportunity to be here and the community just kind of welcoming us and coming and supporting us with everything that we do. We are excited about joining the chamber and looking forward to getting involved in the community.”
Fancy’s Cafe is open Monday thru Saturday from 11:00am until 9:00pm and is located at 1003 Hurst Street, Center, Texas. For more information, call (936) 427-5008.
December 12, 2022 - The City of Center Mayor David Chadwick presented awards to winners of the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce Santa's Christmas Parade at the beginning of the City Council meeting on December 12, 2022 as the city was the Awards Sponsor of the parade.
Mayor Chadwick said, "I can't tell you how much we appreciate the fact that not only the chamber has been so forceful in making sure that we always have a Christmas Parade but you as individuals who take the time, the energy to decorate a float, to come up with an idea, to get people involved, it truely puts our city in a spirit of Christmas and it is just what sets us off and makes the whole season work that much better."
Chamber of Commerce President Deborah Chadwick added, "City Council, City of Center, I can't thank you enough for your support of all our events all year long and for being the float competition (awards) sponsor. Decorations downtown for the holidays are lovely. Thank you Chief (Jim Albers) for your police department escort and thank you for the fire department. It's a team effort and thank you for all of you who have participated. Merry Christmas!"

December 12, 2022 - The members of the Timpson Area Genealogical and Heritage Society had to wait to enjoy the plentiful pot-luck dishes they had brought as incoming 2023 officers were installed at last Wednesday's monthly meeting. The TAGHS Christmas Luncheon was held in the fellowship hall of the Timpson First Baptist Church with Justice of the Peace Tracy Broadway presiding over the ceremony. Those installed were:

The Timpson Area Genealogical Society meets at 2PM on the third Wednesday of each month in the meeting room of the Timpson Public Library on the corner of Austin and Bremond Streets in downtown Timpson. Gingerbread House Decorating Contest Winners
December 9, 2022 (Photo Album) - Saturday, December 3 was a great day for a Christmas Festival and Joaquin sure had one.
Thanks to the hard work done by Krystal Raybon and her team of Christmas elves the town was decorated beautifully. The park was covered with lights and bounce houses for kids and fun for the younger set. The downtown area was glowing. Even the Santa House was ready for the big man himself. There were vendors selling all sorts of great items and good food to eat. The treasure hunt got underway around 9 in the morning with a kids section of clues and an adult section. Money was hidden with every clue. Parade time rolled around with plenty of music from the high school band and the sirens of the fire trucks as well as lots of motorcycles and cars from the car show.
After the parade we had a grand cake walk sponsored by the Community Christian Service group. There was an auction, raffle and toy run benefiting Joaquin Christian Services. All the donations were so appreciated and will be used to help local needy families. There were over 30 prizes drawn, including a 58" tv donated by East Texas Chopper Guys. Three of the auction items were built by the Joaquin FFA group. They did a great job and are very talented.
All in all, it was a fun day for all who came. Prizes were given out for gingerbread house decorating, car show, motorcycle show, parade entrants and a young girl beauty pageant. Many thanks to Krystal for all her hard work putting this festival on.
December 8, 2022 - Shelby Savings Bank is in the midst of celebrating 40 years servicing the community, and on December 8, 2022, their celebration included a Christmas open house for the community to attend.
Will Lucas, Shelby Savings Bank, commented on the bank being in the community since 1982 and the seven locations it now has. The open house is running until 1pm.

December 7, 2022 - Tomlin Insurance recently celebrated new ownership with a new owner ribbon cutting event hosted by the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors.
Stephanie Elswick, Ambassador President, introduced new owners Mallory and Matt Snider.
"We are so happy to start this new adventure, I would call it a new adventure, but I've been here for like 13 years," said Mallory Snider. "We're so excited to continue to grow and continue with the Tomlin legacy that they started."
Snider explained that a large part of Tomlin Insurance has been Hochheim Prairie Insurance and she introduced Carrie Staton who is a representative of that company from Yoakum Texas.
"We have all kinds of insurance that we offer, just come and talk to us we would be happy to offer any type of advice, even if you are not one of our customers because I value educating people more about what they have or what they need," said Snider.
Tomlin Insurance was established in 1982 by the late Judge John Tomlin and his wife Ann. Mrs. Tomlin continued to operate the business after Mr. Tomlin passed away in 2009.
Mallory and Matt Snider purchased Tomlin Insurance in June 2022, after working for the business for over a decade. They are honored to continue the Tomlin legacy.

December 6, 2022 - Members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8904 Auxiliary visited Holiday Nursing Center and Affinity Hospice on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 with Christmas donations.
Accepting plush blankets for their 13 Veteran residents is Bobbi Launius, Activity Director at Holiday Nursing Center and accepting hand knitted shawls/lap blankets is Affinity Hospice RN Case Manager Tammie Jacobs.
Members of the Auxiliary included President Mary Fausett, Treasurer Theresa Hume, Jr. Vice Carolyn Umbrell, Chaplain Joy Hutto and Secretary Jan Ramsey.

December 6, 2022 - The Rotary Club of Center met on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 and enjoyed a program presented by Operation Blue Santa. Amy Lindley, a representative of Operation Blue Santa, reported over 300 applications were turned in this year! She reported Blue Santa has made his list and is checking it twice just in time for Christmas.
A special thanks was given to all the businesses, individuals, and civic groups for donating to help bless children with a better Christmas and make it a special Christmas for many families.
Following the program, club members came together to present Operation Blue Santa with toys and gifts collected. The Rotary Club of Center wishes everyone a very Merry Christmas!
