September 3, 2026 - State Highway 7 East was the scene of a major crash incident at the intersection of CR 3129 on August 29, 2026.
When emergency personnel arrived at the scene of the crash, an SUV was located in a hay meadow beside CR 3129 and a truck tractor, also involved in the incident was in the westbound ditch facing east.
Officers with the Texas Game Wardens, Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies and EMS personnel quickly went to the aid of those involved.
According to Texas Department of Public Safety State Trooper Josh Gradberg, at around 6:20pm a 2008 Chrysler van driven by Carolyn Barnes, 67, of Center was on the eastbound shoulder and made an illegal u-turn in front of a 1999 Western Star truck tractor driven by Jason Woods, 51, of Haughton was also traveling east and hauling a flatbed trailer. The resulting collision caused the vehicles to side-swipe each other and an 8-year-old female backseat passenger in the Chrysler, who was unsecured, was ejected from the vehicle and landed in the roadside ditch
Following the crash, they didn’t know where the child was, but ended up finding the child had run down the road to a family member nearby
Barnes was transported by ambulance to Nacogdoches Medical Center in Nacogdoches for treatment of injuries. Her front passenger Ricky McCollister, 62, of Center and the eight-year-old were not reported to have received injury from the crash.
Woods was not reported to have been injured either.
Barnes was issued citations for turn when unsafe and child passenger unsecured.

Emergency personnel have responded and are assisting those involved, as well as providing traffic control.
