Across the Preacher's Desk - Kindness

August 11, 2022 - Look around our world today and tell me what you see. Partisan politics, war, anxiety, broken marriages, ruined relationships, and venom filled airwaves. In this kind of world, we are in desperate need of kindness.

When Paul wrote that beautiful 13th chapter of I Corinthians he talked about love. He told us “love suffers long and is kind”. In the Galatian letter, Paul tells us in chapter 5 that the fruit of the spirit is love. He then goes on to tell us that one of the attributes of that fruit of the spirit is kindness. When he was writing to the church in Ephesus, he tells them to be kind to one another in Ephesians 4:32.

Kindness makes us more like God. If we really want to be like God, we will develop a heart of kindness. If we want to be like Jesus we need to learn to be kind.  Hard-hearted, unkind, judgmental Christians can do a great deal of damage. Often, we are too quick to speak, to quick to judge and too quick to criticize. We’re short on sympathy, tears and patience. We view people who are tenderhearted as emotional weaklings. But, deep down we know it’s not right. There are times when we are too cold and callous.

Kindness and Gentleness can change lives. You never know when your kindness could change the life of another person and God always wants His people to be kind. When we allow the Spirit to grow in our lives, we will be able to be kind to those around us.

It’s something to think about. . . TBP
