September 30, 2020 - Shelby County Historian Walter Bounds has video documented another phase of the downtown construction on Wednesday, September 16th. The video highlights the opening of another completed corner of the square, the intersection of Nacogdoches Street and Austin Street, and the completely open Austin Street. Austin Street was one of the first streets closed when the construction began late last year shortly after the Poultry Festival ended. Hopes were the construction would be completed in time for the Poultry Festival; however, weather delayed construction moving festival to the John D. Windham Civic Center and starts tomorrow.
One corner opens and another corner closes, the intersection of Logansport/Nacogdoches Street and Tenaha/Shelbyville Street, in front of the RIO Theatre. The last corner of the downtown construction will be Shelbyville Street and Cora/San Augustine Street.
