Allen Announces Candidacy for Sheriff of Shelby County

January 5, 2016 - My name is Ricky Allen, and I would like to announce my candidacy for Sheriff in the Republican primary of Shelby County.

I grew up and currently reside in Timpson, Texas and attended Timpson ISD from first grade through graduation. After I graduated in 1971, I attended Panola College for two years. I’m the son of L.G. and Billie Joy Allen of Timpson. I’m married to Brenda Allen and have three children, Michael, Katie, and Jacob. I also have six grandchildren.

I started my law enforcement career with the Texas Department of Public Safety in 1975. I was a State Trooper for my first seven years and in 1982 was promoted to the DPS Narcotics Service. I remained in the Narcotics Service until my retirement in 2003. When I retired, I had the rank of Lieutenant. My last two years of employment with the Department of Public Safety I was the Commander of the Narcotics Task Force in Nacogdoches, Texas.

After my retirement from DPS, I remained the Commander of the Narcotics Task Force as an employee of the Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office for approximately one year.
Upon my leaving the Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office, I worked as a private investigator for Premiere Protection Agency in Houston, Texas.
I accepted a position at the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office in 2006 where I worked for eight years.

I currently hold a Master Peace Officer License with the Texas Commission of Law Enforcement Standards and Education.

With my years of experience in law enforcement, I have developed many contacts on the local, state, and federal levels that would be very beneficial to Shelby County.
If elected, I look forward to serving the citizens of Shelby County to the best of my ability. I would consider it an honor to serve as your Sheriff and will assure each person that the Sheriff’s Office will be ran in a professional manner and all people treated fairly.

Thank you,
Ricky Allen
