Jennifer’s Story

My name is Jennifer Stroud. On September 4, 2018 I went in for routine hernia repair in Nacogdoches, TX.

They put in mesh and my body rejected it. That caused an abscess in my stomach that had to be taken out. After surgery 2 I woke up from surgery with no feeling in my left side. That has caused me to fall a lot and have no balance. I have had to have back surgery due to one of the falls.

I still have no feeling in foot, thigh and toes on the left side and they aren’t sure I will ever get it back. I got MRSA (very bad staph infection). I ultimately ended up in Houston Methodist Hospital 2 times for this. I stayed there for a month on antibiotics the first time and 2 weeks the second time. When discharged, I went home on home health and did 2 months of home infusion antibiotics. I had surgery at the end of December and 2 surgeries in January. I had my back surgery in beginning of February. On Feb 28 I had another surgery for the infection.

The infection keeps coming back and that causes more surgeries. On March 20 they inserted a pump to deliver antibiotics slowly throughout the day. By the beginning of April it was severely infected and had to come out. Surgery 11 was on April 2. I still have infection that they are trying to treat. I am not sure how long it is going to take to treat this.

I am on long term antibiotics for undetermined amount of time. My body keeps becoming resistant to the meds so they have to keep changing it up.

I thank God for seeing me through all of this and the many prayers that have been prayed.

This has been a living nightmare since September. I have had to quit my job because I have been in the hospital so much and just not physically able to work. I am not sure when I will be able to go back to work.
