Center HS UIL Hosts Big Question; Gorkhali Heads to State

January 4, 2022 - Center High School UIL Academics was awarded a $520 grant for hosting their third Big Question Debate Tournament on December 4. Thirty-seven students participated in the debate, and teachers donated their time to judge.

"It is an event for all the students," Debate coach and UIL Coordinator Douglas Moore said, "We don't let debate kids participate unless they find someone outside of the UIL program to be their partner."

CHS UIL and Debate teams will have a busy spring semester.

"We have invitational tournaments in Chireno and Elysian Fields," Moore said. "We will also be hosting an invitational at SFA on Friday, January 28.We have had several good showings at invitationals, but the biggest award so far has been in UIL Congressional Debate.  Hope Gorkhali was third at the Regional Tournament and qualified for the State Tournament that is also in January.  Hope's qualification makes this the eleventh year in a row that we have had at least one student at the UIL State Tournament."
