August 5, 2015 - Center ISD was the recipient of a $5,000 grant on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 from Superior HealthPlan to help fund the school Backpack Program. The Backpack Program provides meals which are kid-friendly to prepare over the weekend for the students who rely on breakfast and lunch meals from the school throughout the week. Through the program, food is acquired from the East Texas Food Bank in Lufkin during the school year.

Superior HealthPlan representatives Angela Kimble and Rachel Thompson were at the Center High School on Wednesday to present the school with a check. Linda Miller, her husband Dr. Keith Miller, members of his staff and several school representatives were also present for the presentation.

Copelin explained how Linda Miller enlightened her about the grant program, which Center was one of only two candidates to receive funding with the other being located in Texarkana.

Another program which helps to fund the Backpack program is Flags to Fight Hunger. The Center ISD Flags to Fight Hunger program launched on Veteran’s Day 2014 with the goal of supporting the CISD Backpack Program. This flag rental program places American flags in the yards of businesses and neighborhood homes on six holidays a year.
