March 7, 2025 - San Augustine Street in Center was the scene of an arrest for driving while intoxicated following the discovery of a vehicle in the roadway Thursday, March 7, 2025.
Several units with the Center Police Department and Shelby County Sheriff's Department were on scene while the roadway was blocked until the driver could be safely taken into custody.
According to the Center Police Department a traffic stop was initiated at 9:59 due to an individual driving a 2005 maroon Buick Rendezvous parked in the middle of San Augustine Street near the intersection of Martin Street.
When officers made contact, the smell of alcohol was detected and arrested Cleveland Casey, 39, of Center for driving while intoxicated.
Casey was transported to Shelby Emergency Department for a blood draw before being transported to the Shelby County Jail.
The vehicle was inventoried at the entrance to the Community House before being towed from the location.
Due to Casey's apparent intoxication, officers assisted him to the patrol unit.
