August 14, 2019 - Walmart in Center has introduced a new service called Walmart Grocery Pickup and a ribbon cutting event was held Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at their store.

Kicking off the celebration were members of the Center High School band performing the Star Spangled Banner.

Cindy Lindsey, representing the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors, welcomed everyone and expressed how much the chamber appreciated Walmart and its involvement in the community.

Jeff Martin, Center Walmart Manager, spoke about the new addition to the services offered by the store.

"We're just opening up our new pickup, online grocery pickup and we're hoping it's going to bring a lot of convenience, time saving efforts for the community," said Martin. "It's something that we're very excited about."

Martin then gathered with members of the Walmart team and cut the ribbon in celebration of the occasion.

Martin and other associates helped to describe to those present for the event how to use the app for grocery pickup. Once you have the app installed on your phone, you select your items and once you submit your order you drive to the store and if your location services are active on your phone it will alert the store you have arrived and they will get your order together.

Alternatively, you can call a number which is on the signs for the parking spaces designated for pickup and let the store employees know you are in the lot.

Kayse Launius explained once you have your order ready of $50 or more, you qualify to use a promo code (loadit4U) to get a $10 discount. An additional way to save more is to refer friends to use the app as well.

Right now there are 10 associates to primarily work on the grocery pickup orders with the addition of other cross-trained associates and the likelihood of additional hires in the future.

For those shoppers with unreliable cell phone service, Launius says there will be a booster to help extend the wifi signal into the parking lot. If a shopper is pulled into one of the pickup spots, store employees can see them in the lot and check on their order should there be no other means of communication.

Launius explained their goal is to have a wait time for the customer of at least under four minutes.
