Center Woman's Reading Club to Meet March 5th

March 2, 2020 - The Center Woman's Reading Club was organized in 1896. This unique reading club meets twice monthly. Guests are always welcome.

On February 6th Linda Anderson presented The Great Gatsby to the club. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1925 Jazz Age novel about the impossibility of recapturing the past, was initially a failure. Today, the story of Gatsby’s doomed love for the unattainable Daisy is considered a defining novel of the 20th century.

On February 20th Deborah Chadwick presented The Sun Also Rises to the club. The Sun Also Rises is a 1926 novel by American Ernest Hemingway that portrays American and British expatriates who travel from Paris to the Festival of San Fermín in Pamplona to watch the running of the bulls and the bullfights. An early and enduring modernist novel, it received mixed reviews upon publication.

The next club meeting will be held on Thursday, March 5th. Contact club president, Mrs. Dottie West for additional information. Mrs. West can be reached at 936-598-5054.
