Center's Newly Elected, Re-Elected Council Members Sworn In

November 22, 2016 - Newly elected and re-elected council members were sworn in at the Center City Council meeting held on Monday, November 21, 2016.

Continuing in their positions on the council are Jerry Lathan and Leigh Porterfield and new to the council are Terry Scull and Dr. Randy Collard.

Mayor David Chadwick read the report from Boyd which reflects there were 1,678 votes cast with Leigh Porterfield receiving 531, Maelinda Swanzy 132, Jud Matthews 277, Terry Scull 458, Michael Lee 280. District 4 had 244 votes cast with Charles Rushing receiving 164, Randy Collard 89. Rushing had stepped down from his position on the council and was not any longer qualified to take a seat at the council and so Collard won his seat for District 4. Councilman Jerry Lathan ran unopposed.

After a motion carried by the council to accept and approve the canvassing of votes Barbara Boyd, City Secretary, administered the oath of office to the four council members.

Following the swearing in a motion carried for Leigh Porterfield to be Mayor Pro Tem.

Chad Nehring, City Manager, addressed items of interest to the city first with the Christmas parade set for December 3 on the Center square. He said he believes Center Fire Chief Keith Byndom is lined out with the parade truck so any interested council members can toss some candy on the route.

The meeting adjourned at 5:10pm.

2. Canvass election returns and declare official results of the City of Center November 8, 2016 election to elect council member, District 4 and the two council members at large positions.
3. Elect Leigh Porterfield Mayor Pro Tem.
4. Adjourn at 5:10pm.

1. Appoint Shelby County Appraisal Board Member.
2. Appoint Street Improvements for Economic Development Board Members.
3. Appoint Economic Development Board Member.
