Charles Barr Announces Candidacy for County Commissioner Precinct 3

Dear Citizens of Precinct 3 and all of Shelby County:

January 11, 2016 - Please allow me to take a few moments of your time to introduce myself. My name is Charles Barr and I am running for County Commissioner of Precinct 3. I was born, raised and have lived my entire life in Precinct 3 of Shelby County. My parents are Yondell Barr and Billie Doggett Barr. I have two brothers Johnny Barr of Joaquin, TX , Steve Barr of Center, TX and a sister Gayla Barr Horn of Center, TX.

I am married to Luciana Lawson Barr, daughter of Billy E. Lawson and Jean Andrews Lawson. We have been married for over forty years. My wife is a teacher, and is currently the District Dyslexia Coordinator for Center ISD. We have two sons Brent and Blake. Blake is married to Alix Andres Barr daughter of Brent Andres and Jannine Harvey Andres all of Joaquin. We have a grandson Charles Brent that will be three next month and a new granddaughter Kennedi Kate that was born January 5, 2016.

I graduated from Center High School in 1974 and later earned a degree from Stephen F. Austin State University in education. I taught and coached at Center ISD and Joaquin ISD for only five years due to a tragedy in my immediate family. For nearly thirty-five years, my brother Steve and I have owned and operated a successful logging business. I am currently working for Target Timber. From these careers I’ve learned how to manage a business and work with and for people.

I am a member of the First Baptist Church, Center. I taught 4th grade boys Sunday school for a number of years and have also helped with the youth group. I am president of the Antioch and North Jericho Cemetery committees.

Over the past seven or eight years I have been urged and convinced that I can be of service to not only all of Precinct 3, but all of Shelby County. I am a hard worker. If elected, I promise to put on my work boots and go to work just as I have done for forty years. I would be honored to serve as County Commissioner of Precinct 3.

Respectfully,
Charles Barr
