Constable Monitors Jail Inmates Cleaning Up Roadways

April 18, 2019 - The Constable Precinct 3 office put to use Shelby County Jail trustys cleaning up roadways in Precinct 3 on April 12, 2019.

The Shelby County Commissioners' Court approved on March 13 the hiring by Willis Blackwell, Shelby County Sheriff, of a seasonal part-time deputy to monitor jail trustys while they do outside work.

During discussion of that hiring, the commissioners talked with Sheriff Blackwell about the possibility of County Constables participating in doing some monitoring of trustys in the county. Sheriff Blackwell agreed that was possible.

Upon hearing Sheriff Blackwell was willing to allow this scenario Roy Cheatwood, Shelby County Constable Precinct 3, contacted Sheriff Blackwell about helping out and said he would be happy to help.

As a result Cheatwood escorted two jail trustys as they picked up trash debris along the roadways in the Joaquin area.

Cheatwood thanked the people of Precinct 3 and the Shelby County Sheriff's Department for participating in this partnership.
