March 9, 2016 - I would want to urge everyone who lives in low lying areas, especially, the lake areas and near the Sabine River to be cautious and if possible evacuate until the rain and flooding ends. We are not calling for a mandatory evacuation at this time but a voluntary one.
Shelby County, City of Joaquin, Joaquin VFD, American Red Cross, and other organizations are working together to organize a shelter for people that have no family or friends to stay with. If you need help with evacuating, please contact your local Volunteer Fire Department or law enforcement. If your home is secure and you do not need to evacuate, please stay at home.
Please do not put yourself and/or emergency personnel in danger. Please be smart and cautious, the life you save may be your own.
