October 1, 2018 - U.S. Highway 96 North just outside of Center at the intersection of Loop 500 was the scene of a single-vehicle crash Sunday, September 30, 2018 to which Center Fire Department firemen were dispatched.
According to Texas Department of Public Safety State Trooper Cpl. Jimmy Faulkner, at 10:31am a black Cadillac ATS driven by Johnny Chavez, 31, of Center who was intoxicated at the time, was northbound on U.S. Highway 96 North.
As the Cadillac passed Loop 500, Chavez failed to maintain a single lane and traveled to the right off the roadway where the Cadillac collidaed head on with a guardrail. The vehicle then continued right off the highway and into a ditch where it came to rest.
Chavez was transported from the scene by Allegiance Mobile Health Ambulance to Nacogdoches Medical Center - Shelby Emergency Department for treatment.
