Crash in Timpson Shuts Down Bear Drive (Update)

May 3, 2016 - (Update): As of 8:32pm, emergency personnel have cleared the scene and power has been restored.

May 3, 2016 - Bear Drive in Timpson was shut down due to a crash which left many without power in Timpson Tuesday afternoon.

According to Timpson Police Officer Jake Metcalf, on May 3, 2016 at 1:20pm Jeremy Don Hammers, 39, of Timpson was traveling southwest on Bear Drive in a dump truck owned by Lone Star Locations Services LLC. of Center. For an unknown reason, Hammers exited to the right of the roadway at Marcus Street and collided with a utility pole, multiple water meters and three telephone distribution pedestals. The dump truck continued on the sidewalk of Bear Drive until Todd Street where it left the roadway completely and struck a tree.

Several meter loops were ripped from homes as the dump truck traveled on Bear Drive.

Timpson Volunteer Fire Department (TVFD), Timpson Volunteer Ambulance Service (TVAS), Timpson Police Department (TPD), City of Timpson, Northeast Texas Power, AT&T and Hopkins Wrecker Service all responded to the scene. Hammers refused treatment from Timpson Volunteer Ambulance Service and no injuries were reported as a result of the crash.

Hammers was cited for failure to maintain a single lane.

TVFD, TPD, and utility crews remained at the scene as they worked to restore power and any other utilities effected by the incident.
