David’s Daily Devotion for June 26

June 26, 2024 - On June 26, 1977, a concert was presented at the Market Square Arena in Indianapolis, Indiana. The 18,000 people present had no idea that they were witnessing a moment in history.  It was the last concert that Elvis Presley would ever give. His performance, as it had been for several years, was a shadow of the Elvis that the world had come to know and love. But for 90 minutes he gave that crowd everything he had. And six weeks later he was dead.

That night in Indianapolis Elvis sang all of his big hits - Jailhouse Rock, Hound Dog, Love Me Tender - just to name a few. But he also sang some gospel songs. Lots of popular artists release a gospel album because they think it will sell, or because they think it will please their fans. Elvis truly loved gospel music and sang it throughout his long career. He recorded over 60 Christian songs. Here's some of those titles . . .

Where Could I Go But to the Lord
He Touched Me
How Great Thou Art
Amazing Grace
In the Garden
Mansion Over the Hilltop
Farther Along
Without Him
Peace in the Valley

And then there's this one, perhaps a song that was on his mind during those last few months.

Take my hand, precious Lord
Lead me on, let me stand
I am tired, I am weak, I am worn
Through the storm, through the night
Lead me on to the light
Take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home

Meet you back here tomorrow,

Bro. David
