David’s Daily Devotion for March 7

March 7, 2023 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, March 7.

On March 7, 1876, the U.S. Patent Office issued what has been called the most profitable patent in the history of patents. It was issued to an inventor named Alexander Graham Bell. He called it . . . the telephone.

In just 20 years, Bell’s idea had been developed into a device that didn’t fundamentally change for the next century. The appearance changed, of course.  I have a “candlestick” from the 1920’s. That’s the one with the little ear-piece that hangs on the side. And my collection includes one of the first rotary desk phones from the ‘40’s. It’s made of “Bakelite”, an early plastic, and weighs a ton.

Even though the look of the telephone changed, the concept, developed by Alexander Graham Bell, didn’t. At least until the “smart phone” made its first appearance. And one thing that has never changed is our need, as human beings, to communicate with each other.  “How are you?”, “I miss you!”, “I love you.”

When I was a boy, when my family still had just one phone, a “land line”, I first heard the nickname “God’s Telephone Number”. You remember the verse - Jeremiah 33:3.

“Call unto me and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.”

God wants to know how you are. He misses you. He loves you. Give Him a call.

Meet you back here tomorrow,

Bro. David
