March 13, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, March 13.
Today we start a six-part series on creation and the Creator. It will conclude next Thursday, March 20, the first day of spring. Our study begins as the Bible begins... “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” That scripture initiates our human story, but it is not the beginning of God. The Word tells us that He has no beginning and no end. He exists outside of the framework of time. In that first verse His name is Elohim, which means powerful and majestic - an entirely appropriate name for the One who spoke the universe into being.
The traditional worship hymn “Fairest Lord Jesus” celebrates the Creator and His creation. The tune is named “Crusader Hymn”, and the legend goes that it was sung by the soldiers of the religious wars of a thousand years ago. But the truth, however, is that this beautiful melody is from a Polish folk song of the 18th century. And, interestingly, this lovely tune was the inspiration for the opening song in the Disney animated film “Frozen” - one of my granddaughter’s favorite movies.
The identity of the lyricist is lost to history, but his powerful and poetic words speak to us again this morning.
Fairest Lord Jesus, Ruler of all nature, O Thou of God and man the Son
Thee will I cherish, Thee will I honor, Thou my soul’s glory, joy, and crown
Fair are the meadows, fairer still the woodlands, robed in the blooming garb of spring
Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer, who makes the woeful heart to sing
Beautiful Savior, Lord of the nations, Son of God and Son of Man
Glory and honor, praise, adoration, now and forevermore be Thine
Meet you back here tomorrow,
David
