April 15, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, April 15.
We continue our week-long series “The Road to Resurrection”, looking at what Jesus did on each day of Holy Week, each day that led to the Cross, that led to the Empty Tomb. On Monday we saw the very public purging of the temple money changers. And on Tuesday, Jesus and the Twelve were in the temple once again.
Friday would be an unimaginable day of testing for Christ, but Tuesday would have a time of testing, as well. In the temple that day, Jesus was confronted by several different Jewish groups, one after the other. The chief priests questioned His divine authority. The Pharisees asked Him if it was right to pay taxes to Caesar. The Sadducees interrogated Him about the doctrine of resurrection. Each group, in effect, was trying to trap Jesus, trying to use His own words against Him.
But time and time again Jesus responded with words from the Word of God. And these learned, religious men were confounded. Matthew 23:46 tells us, “No one could say a word in reply, and from that day on, no one dared to ask Jesus any questions”.
Do we find our answers in the Word? Do we find our spiritual authority there? Do we spend enough time in the Bible for it to be “at our fingertips” when we need it? Jesus set a great example for us on Tuesday of Holy Week. And the powerful Jewish groups, one by one, were defeated by His words, by the Word of God.
On Wednesday, these groups would turn to a different plan, would turn to a man... a man named Judas.
Meet you back here tomorrow,
David
