David's Daily Devotion for Aug. 11

August 11, 2022 - Good Morning!  It’s Thursday, August 11.

Today is Marilyn von Savant’s birthday!  Doesn’t ring a bell? Well, she’s none other than the smartest person in the world, holding the record for the highest IQ of 228 (the average guy scores 100). Pretty impressive! Plus, her name “savant” means “brilliant person.”  What are the odds?

So, what does this super intelligent person do?  Is she busy curing cancer?  Fixing global warming?  Inventing a flying car?  No. Marilyn von Savant writes a column in Parade magazine. You know, that little magazine inserted into the Sunday newspaper. Her column is called “Ask Marilyn,” and she answers academic questions sent in by readers and solves puzzles that they submit. Ok.  Is it just me, or is that a tad disappointing? She has the biggest brain in the world, and she writes a magazine column? Talk about your lost potential. Come on Marilyn!

But I guess we Christians aren't ones to talk.  How often do we settle for small lives of mediocre accomplishment, when, all the while, we have access to the power of Almighty God? How often do we squander our potential, potential provided by the Creator of the Universe?

Ephesians 3:20-21. Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Meet you back here tomorrow,

Bro. David
