Have you heard about “Kalshi?” It’s one of many sites that have sprung up on the web recently called “prediction markets.” Places where you can wager money on what will happen in the future. Sports scores of course. But also on what the high temperature will be in New York City today, whether a politician will say a certain word in a speech, who will win the next Oscar, or whether the U.S. will drop a nuclear bomb on Iran - pretty much anything and everything. You can even bet on the Second Coming of Christ!
In the first half of 2026 over 60 billion dollars has been bet on prediction markets. It’s been predicted that that total will rise, by the end of this decade, to over a trillion. I imagine you can probably bet on whether that will turn out to be true. And, as with all gambling, much more money has been lost than has been won. And, as usual, lost by those who can least stand to lose it.
The urge to gamble has been around as long as there’s been money to wager. And humans have always had the strong desire to know the future. It’s what keeps all those palm readers and fortune tellers in business. But God’s Word tells us that only He knows what is to come. Isaiah 46:9-11 says, “I am God and there is no other. I make known from the start and what is still to come. Revelation 22 calls Him “the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End.” And in the famous “To everything there is a season” passage in Ecclesiastes 3 we find this truth.
“He has made everything beautiful in His time. Also He has set the world in their hearts, so that no man can know the work that God makes from the beginning to the end.”
