David's Daily Devotion for February 25

February 25, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, February 25.

The Bible teaches us in many different ways. There are verses that explain doctrine, there are poems of praise, there are characters who serve as examples. And then there are the stories. As children, these stories are our first gateway to understanding who God is, and these stories continue to guide us throughout our lives. One of the most dramatic Bible story is the Tower of Babel.

This story is found in Genesis 11. You won’t find the term “Tower of Babel” there, but you will find a people who became so full of themselves that they tried to build a structure that would reach heaven, an endeavor that they thought would make them as powerful as God. The story speaks to the constant temptation to rely on our own strength, forgetting that we should be completely dependent on Him. But the story also speaks about language, and about how God separated the people by dividing them into many different tongues.

Today there are over 7000 languages and dialects in the world. Over 400 are spoken in the United States, where 20% of the population has a “first” language other than English. When I served on staff at a church in Houston, we did a study and found that there were over 130 languages spoken within a 30 minute drive from our campus. Even here in East Texas there are dozens of different languages. I studied French in high school, but would be helpless to express myself in Paris. I’ve worked on Spanish for awhile, but I’m always thankful for the gracious understanding of my Hispanic friends when I attempt to be bilingual.

No matter what our language, we are connected through the saving grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The Bible has been translated into over 3000 languages. I’ll use English to share this final verse of doctrine.

Galatians 3:28 - There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Nos vemos aqui manana, (Meet you back here tomorrow)
