January 13, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, January 13.
How do you sleep? You’ve heard the old joke - “I slept like a baby. I woke up every three hours and cried!” My sleep habits have changed drastically as I’ve eased into old age. When I was younger, I was a confirmed night owl, not usually in bed before midnight, and every morning I faced the challenge of getting up in time for school or work.
Not anymore! But I sometimes have trouble getting to sleep or staying asleep. I’m not alone - about a third of adults suffer with some level of insomnia.
Sleeplessness is a common challenge, especially during challenging times. Sometimes our minds are so full of worries and concerns that it seems impossible to relax, to rest, to sleep. This is an age-old problem. In 1691 a book was published titled The New England Primer. It was a tool to teach colonial American children to read. The majority of it was scripture. But there was one bit of new material in this old book -
Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep
If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take
Those words are over 300 years old. These words are over 3,000 years old.
Do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight, preserve sound judgement and discretion; then you will go on your way in safety, and your feet will not stumble. When you lie down you will not be afraid; when you lie down your sleep will be sweet. Proverbs 3:21-24
Sweet Dreams!
Meet you back here tomorrow,
David
