David's Daily Devotion for January 6

January 6, 2023 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, January 6.

On this day, in 1836, a portrait painter named Samuel Morse demonstrated a machine that would transmit messages electronically. He called it the telegraph. It was the first time in human history that that had happened. It changed the world.

Take a moment to think about the innovations in communication that have occurred in our lifetimes. The cell phone, the smart phone, emailing, texting, instant messaging, the internet, social media... and what’s next? Who knows! But, rest assured, it’s on its way. Technicians are working overtime in labs around the world - all in the pursuit of communication.

And yet, we live in a culture where many still feel isolated, lonely, disconnected, and detached. Methods of communication continue to change - Western Union sent its last telegram 20 years ago - but our need to communicate, to share our minds and hearts with others has never changed. God created us that way. And since the Bible teaches us that we are created in His image, it makes sense to assume that He wants to communicate with us as well.

He speaks to us through His beautiful creation. He speaks to us through our experiences and through the testimony of those around us. He speaks to us through scripture. And all we have to do... is listen.

Meet you back here on Monday.
