July 10, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, July 10.
On this day, in 1965, a new #1 song was crowned in America. It was the first hit record for a British group that had long played second fiddle to the mighty Beatles. On July 10, The Rolling Stones staked their claim to greatness with the song “I Can’t Get No Satisfaction.” The message spoke to the restless, searching generation of the Sixties, and it still personifies our culture today.
The Beatles broke up before the Sixties were over, but The Stones, amazingly, are still together after 64 years. This month they released their 25th album. Their two leaders, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, are octogenarians now. The very fact that Richards has lived this long is proof that miracles do happen. He wrote the music for that first hit, and began the song with one of the most famous guitar riffs in history. You may not be a rock music fan, but I guarantee you’d recognize that intro.
The words, written by Jagger, expressed dismay over the commercialization of society. And that was six decades ago. Even more so now, Americans relentlessly search for satisfaction. Satisfaction in their careers, in their relationships. Satisfaction in possessions and pleasures. Satisfaction in their minds, their hearts, their souls. Christ sensed that same searching and seeking and striving in the generation of the First Century, and He spoke famously to it with these words preserved for us in Matthew 5:6 - “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.”
Meet you back here on Monday,
