David's Daily Devotion for June 20

June 20, 2023 - Good Morning! It's Tuesday, June 20.

Imagine it's next Sunday morning and you’re in your church sanctuary a few minutes before the service is to start. A stranger walks in the door. He’s short - about five feet five inches - dark skinned, with rough features. You walk over and introduce yourself and you find out that this man makes a meager living working with his hands. You learn that he grew up in a tiny town of 200 people, has never traveled more than a couple of hundred miles from that place, and is not widely known outside of the rural region where he was raised and has worked for the first 30 years of his life.

You realize now that I’m describing Jesus Christ. And we assume that he would probably not make a positive impression on your church family - other than perhaps causing a few suspicious, uneasy stares. This speaks to how we value, how we judge a person. Appearance? Profession? Wealth? Power? Influence? The Word says this...

I Samuel 16:7. "God doesn’t see as humans see. Humans look at outward appearances, but the Lord looks into the heart."

It also says this in Isaiah 53:2. "He had no form or majesty that we should look at Him, and no beauty that we should desire Him."

So, this Sunday morning, at your church, look for someone who might not stand out by our human standards. And give them a hearty welcome! As it says in Hebrews 13:2, you might just be “entertaining angels unaware.”

Meet you back here tomorrow,
Bro. David
