David's Daily Devotion for June 23

June 23, 2023 - Good Morning! It's Friday, June 23.

Over the last three years there's been one word that has most often crossed our minds and crossed our lips - the word "pandemic". But during the first half of the 20th century, there was another pandemic that affected millions of lives - polio. On June 23, 1995, a man died that, more than any other person, brought that pandemic to a close. The man's name was Jonas Salk.

Salk, at the age of 33, in 1948, began searching for a polio vaccine. In 1955, the vaccine was given to the world and polio was reduced by 99%. Jonas Salk chose not to patent his discovery, and never made any money from it. Instead, he made a difference. And isn't that the hope of each one of us? The hope that our life will make a difference in this world.

The Gospel writer, Matthew, gave us a way to do that, when he recorded these words that Jesus shared in the Sermon on the Mount. "You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put in on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven."

Make a difference. Leave a legacy. Glorify God.

Meet you back here on Monday,

Bro. David
