March 18, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, March 18.
We continue with our series on creation and the Creator, leading to this Thursday, the first day of spring. This morning we turn our focus on a couple of interesting verses - Genesis 1:29 and Genesis 9:3. The story of creation in the Book of Genesis is a story of change. But did you realize that that included a change in our diet? In Genesis 1:39 we find these words - Then God said, “I give you every seed bearing plant on the face of the whole earth, and every tree that has fruit. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground - everything that has the breath of life in it - I give every green plant for food.”
Did you catch which food is missing in that passage? Meat. It appears that God’s original plan, perhaps His best plan, was for us to be vegetarians. And that was his plan for the diet of animals as well. Our relationship with animals, it seems, was intended to be one of harmony, not of predator and prey. This is a biblical precept that wouldn’t go over too well here in East Texas. We like our red meat. And we really like our chicken!
But, as we mentioned, the Genesis story was a story of change. And in Genesis 9:3, after the Garden of Eden, after the Flood, God said to Noah - “Everything that lives and moves shall be food for you. Just as before I gave you the green plants, now I give you everything.”
Interesting scriptures to think about. I think I’ll have a salad for lunch!
Meet you back here tomorrow,
David
