David's Daily Devotion for May 14

May 14, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, May 14.

On May 14, 1984, a baby boy was born in White Plains, New York. His name was Mark Elliot Zuckerberg. At the tender age of 19, he created a website called The Facebook. Later, the “The” was dropped. Facebook is now the third most visited internet site in the world, behind Google and YouTube. More than 3 billion people use it regularly. I’m guessing that you’re probably one of them.

Speaking of billions, Zuckerberg became the world’s youngest billionaire at 23, and today he’s worth over 200 billion. His Facebook created a whole new definition for the word “friends”. And it’s become a wonderful tool for churches to broadcast their services, to publicize their ministries, and to share the gospel. A number of our faithful Daily Devotion readers faithfully post these little thoughts on their Facebook pages.

But Facebook has also brought us more than its share of fake news, conspiracy theories, and hate speech. It has threatened our privacy, drawn some into internet addiction, and isolated many users from the real world and from the real people around them. Have you ever been sitting and talking with a friend and noticed them looking at their phone, more connected with their Facebook “friends” than with you?

Technology, as always, is a double-edged sword. A mixture of good and bad. A life changing tool - for better and for worse. Perhaps we should spend less time on Facebook... and more time in His Book.

Meet you back here tomorrow,
David
