May 27, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Wednesday, May 27.
On May 27, 1935, something revolutionary happened, something that would change the world. Alan Turing, a 23-year-old student at England’s Cambridge University, published a scholarly paper. This paper described a device that would come to be called “The Turing Machine”. We have a different name for it today . . . the computer.
Turing built his amazing machine during World War II, and used it to crack the communication codes of the German army. Historians believe that his invention played a significant role in the Allied victory, and may have saved millions of lives. Because of Britain’s Secrecy Act, Turing’s work was unknown and unheralded in his lifetime. But our lives have been changed because of his revolutionary ideas.
We sometimes lose sight of how revolutionary the ideas of Jesus were in His time. Love your enemies. The first shall be last. Blessed are the peacemakers. Come to think of it, those ideas are still pretty revolutionary today. But they continue to have the power to change our lives. And we shouldn’t keep them a secret.
Meet you back here tomorrow,
David
