David's Daily Devotion for May 4

May 4, 2022 - Good Morning!  It's Wednesday, May 4.

We're focusing this week on the subject of prayer, because of tomorrow's National Day of Prayer. But there's another special day coming up - Mother's Day. Here's a brief thought about a mother's prayer.

Hannah was the wife of a man named Elkanah, and she was unable to have children. She prayed fervently to God for a child. The Bible says she, "poured out her soul to the Lord." And the Lord blessed her with a son. She named him Samuel, which means "the name of God". Because of God's blessing, Hannah gave Samuel back to God and brought him to live with the priest Eli. In that moment, that moment when Hannah gave her most precious gift to the "Giver of All Good Gifts", she prayed an amazing prayer. You can read all of it in I Samuel Chapter 2. Here's a few verses -

"My heart rejoices in the Lord, for I delight in His deliverance. There is no one holy like the Lord; there is no Rock like our God."

A prayer of praise. A prayer of thankfulness. A mother's prayer.

Meet you back here tomorrow,

P.S. - I hope to see many of you tomorrow at noon in front of our historic Shelby County courthouse for the annual National Day of Prayer event. Come and sing the National Anthem and pledge to our flag. Come and hear prayers for our country, our military, our schools, our first responders, our churches, our homes. Come and be "1 of 100", so that we can circle our courthouse in a human prayer chain and sing "Amazing Grace". Come and pray.
