May 7, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, May 7.
What can you tell me about the following women - Anna Pertl, Nancy Hanks, Pauline Koch, and Morrow Coffey? Well, unless you cheated and googled it, I’m pretty sure you didn’t recognize any of them. But they gave us the world’s greatest composer, greatest president, greatest scientist, and greatest evangelist. These women are the mothers of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Abraham Lincoln, Albert Einstein, and Billy Graham!
There’s a woman in the Bible who is barely mentioned, just a footnote. But what a difference she made, what a gift she gave. Her name was Eunice and she was the mother of Timothy. He was a protege of the Apostle Paul. The letters that Paul wrote to Timothy have become handbooks for young ministers. And he became the pastor of the mighty First Century church of Ephesus. Eunice raised and nurtured a man who deeply impacted the Christian faith.
But it wasn’t easy. The Bible tells us that Timothy’s father was a Greek and most probably not a believer. Mixed marriages like this are often particularly challenging, especially when it comes to raising children. But we are told that “Timothy was well acquainted with the sacred writings”. Eunice, and her mother Lois, made sure that Timothy was trained up in the way that he should go. She may not be a marquee name in the Bible, but just about every church that I have served in has had a women’s Sunday School group called “The Eunice Class”.
A fitting legacy for a faithful woman. A faithful mother.
Meet you back here tomorrow,
David
