David's Daily Devotion for November 16

November 16, 2022 - Good Morning! It's Wednesday, November 16.

The earth was literally shaking early this morning at Cape Canaveral in South Florida. The mighty Artemis rocket, 100 meters tall, the most powerful in history, lifted off at the Kennedy Space Center. Artemis is costing taxpayers about 34 billion dollars, but NASA is excited to be on its way... BACK to the moon??? Didn't we do that over 50 years ago? Is it just me, or is getting Americans excited about this space program, a particularly hard sell?

The capsule of Artemis was empty this morning. It won't take people until 2025. At that time, the first woman will have the opportunity to walk on the lunar surface. In Greek mythology "Artemis" was a moon goddess - so I guess that makes sense. But, 34 billion? I know that this is supposed to be a stepping stone to a flight to Mars. Now, I could get excited about that. But, putting people on the Red Planet is a goal that's projected to take more than 25 years to achieve. I guess I could watch the Mars landing on the TV at the nursing home.

Sorry to be so negative this morning. I'm actually a big NASA fan. But it's hard to get excited when you have the impression that you're going backwards. I think I'd have a difficult time selling my finance committee on the idea of purchasing a new mimeograph machine for the church office. The Bible is full of characters who, despite challenges and hardships, were set on moving forward. And in Luke Chapter 9, Jesus said, "No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God."

Onward and Upward!

Meet you back here tomorrow,
Bro. David
