David's Daily Devotion for Oct. 16

October 16, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Wednesday, October 16.

"What's in a name?" That's a famous quote from a famous play - Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet".

Do you know what your name means? Maybe you were given your name not for its meaning, but for its history, its legacy. Maybe your name is a remembrance of an ancestor. The middle names of my two daughters are the first names of their grandmothers - Marie and Faye. Or perhaps the meaning of your name was a hopeful promise from your parents. Our oldest we named Claire (bright, luminous) and our youngest we called Caroline (a song of joy). As they've grown into adults we've been blessed to see their lives live up to the promise.

The earthly parents of Christ didn't choose His name. The angel Gabriel appeared to Joseph and said, "And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call His name Jesus, for He shall save His people from their sin". That name is the Greek form of the Hebrew name Yeshua (Joshua) which means "the Lord saves".

Thank Him this morning for living up to the promise of His name!

Meet you back here tomorrow,

David
