October 2, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, October 2.
Today we focus on the power of music. Have you heard about the war that was won... with singing? This amazing story is found in 2 Chronicles Chapter 20. As we read it, we find that Israel was besieged by not one, not two, but three invading armies. Their prospects looked hopeless. The day before the big battle King Jehoshaphat called his people together.
The king proceeded to pray a powerful prayer, and then he bowed “with his face to the ground”, and all his kingdom bowed with him. What an inspiring image of a leader trusting God for the future, and leading his followers to do the same. As the prayer ended, the Levites (the worship ministers of the Israelite nation) began to sing. They sang a song of praise, a song praising God for the victory - and the war hadn’t even happened yet!
The next morning King Jehoshaphat led his army out to battle, followed by the Levites, who once again began to sing a song of praise. As they approached the battlefield, the three enemy armies inexplicably began to turn on each other. When God’s people arrived they witnessed a valley filled with dead soldiers. The Lord Almighty had already won the victory.
The power of music! The power of praise! The victorious power of God! Some theologians believe that Jehoshaphat’s army was singing these words found in Psalm 47. “Sing praises to God; sing praises; sing praises to our King; sing praises. For God is the King of all the earth, sing to Him a song of praise.”
Sing a song of praise this morning. It can be a powerful thing.
Meet you back here on Monday,
David
