David's Daily Devotion for October 29

October 29, 2024 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, October 29.

Our focus today is on one of the most famous passages in the Bible - the Ten Commandments. But do you know that there was actually not one, but two sets of commandments? Moses brought the first set down from the mountain, saw the golden idol that the Israelite people had built, and angrily threw the tablets to the ground, breaking them into pieces.

Moses had given up on his people, but God didn’t give up on him. He gave Moses a second set of tablets. He gave Moses, and the Israelite people, a second chance. Consider the famous characters of the Bible. I believe that just about every one of them experienced failure. And I believe that each one was given the opportunity to start again. It took me just a moment to come up with these ten names - Peter, Samson, Zacchaeus, Jonah, Thomas, Adam & Eve, Paul, Mark, David. Take a moment to meditate on their stories. King David wrote these words after a time of failure in his life -

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from Thy presence, and take not Thy Holy Spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of my salvation.” Psalm 51:10-12

We all stumble and fall. But if we get up again - with a heart of repentance - God is faithful to restore us, to renew us, to give us... a second chance.

Meet you back here tomorrow,
David
