Driver Arrested Following Single Vehicle Crash in Joaquin

June 1, 2015 - A single vehicle crash occurred just before midnight on Friday, May 29, 2015 on State Highway 7 East coming into Joaquin ending with the arrest of the driver for driving while intoxicated.

According to a Texas Department of Public Safety crash report, 9-1-1 was called at 11:51pm concerning a crash on SH 7, one mile west of US 84. A 2006 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Donna Coates, age 53, of Tioga, Louisiana, was east bound when she failed to drive in a single lane crossing over to the left lane and then over correcting. The vehicle traveled into a ditch before flipping onto its top and landing upside down propped against a concrete culvert to a driveway.

The Joaquin Volunteer Fire Department and ACE EMS were both dispatched to the scene due an initial report of the driver being trapped inside the car. Upon arrival on scene, the driver was located standing outside of the vehicle. ACE EMS evaluated her condition and no injuries were reported.

TxDPS State Trooper Dustin Ramos was dispatched to the crash and upon investigation the driver was arrested for driving while intoxicated and booked into the Shelby County Jail at 1:40am.

Firemen remained on scene assisting with traffic control until the vehicle was overturned and the crash scene was clear.
